Health Benefits of Eating Eel


Eels may not appeal to you visually as they do look rather like black snakes, but they are nutritious, healthy, and taste very good – and you don’t have to take my word for that! I love them and I didn’t have to acquire a taste for them. I probably ate quite a few of the plastic cupfuls of jellied eels before I realized what I was eating. My grandfather adored them and that was good enough for me. They are a meaty fishy thing as far as texture goes, but as they were in a jelly, they were also slippery.

London’s East End is famous for its pie, mash and liquor, and its jellies or stewed eels. The working classes were eating them heartily in the 1800s and the tradition continues today. Tourists and locals alike can be found in the pie shops trying out the local ‘delicacies’ if you can call mashed potatoes and a meat pie covered in pea sauce which may have been made with the water leftover from cooking the eels.

Eels are good for you as they contain Omega-6 fatty acids, and so have all the benefits of other oily fish such as mackerel and salmon. They contain the minerals calcium, magnesium, phosphorous, potassium, sodium, selenium (the feel good mineral as I like to think of it), manganese, zinc and iron. As for minerals they are a very good source of vitamins A and B12 and also a very good source of protein. They contain no carbohydrates, but have 18 amino acids and vitamins A, C, E (in the form of Alpha-Tocopherol) k, The B-complex vitamins, B1, B2, B3, B6, folate, B5, B12 and choline. This means that they are heart healthy, protect the central nervous system, help vision, promote hair growth and help rejuvenate the skin, and of course there’s selenium, good for the brain and a mood enhancer.

This year, the price of eels and elvers (baby eels) has sky-rocketed, partly because the populations in the Thames have decreased, and partly because people have woken up to the fact that eels are healthy and tasty too. In April 2012, American fishermen in Portland, Maine, were saying that a pound of eels could fetch more than $2,000. The season for elvers is short, being from February to May.

I will never forget the first time I saw these small, transparent, wriggling creatures crawling over the prawns and fish in Swansea market. I got over it though and ate them when we got home. You can still buy them there with the fresh cockles and laverbread (cooked seaweed). Jellied eels can be prepared at home, they are boiled in water and spices and the water is allowed to cool and then it becomes jelly as the eel is fatty, as I mentioned above. You can eat them hot or cold, and if you are in the East End of London, they will be served in a bowl, and you will be given them already chopped up as you traditionally eat them with a fork and spoon – no knife.

It seems as though they are not as cheap as they used to be- but they are just as tasty, so forget your prejudices and try them. They are good for you.

Maintaining first rate penis health is an admirable goal for any man. But sometimes there can be a bit of confusion about what exactly is best for penis health. For example, when a new technique or treatment appears on the horizon, it may promoted as a benefit but might actually have some downside to it. Such is likely the case with the developing trend to try to flash freeze the penis.

Say what?

Yes, there has been a recent development in sexual matters in which people are encouraged to flash freeze their genitals. And it’s drawn from the larger trend toward cryotherapy.


Originally, cryotherapy was the use of very low temperatures in medical therapy. It was developed as a way to treat a range of lesions, both malignant and benign. In a modified, very local way, it is often used to “freeze off” stubborn warts, for example.

More recently, cryotherapy has become a trendy (and typically expensive) spa treatment. Full-body cryotherapy is often used to relieve extensive muscle aches, to lose weight and to rejuvenate their skin.

With full-body cryotherapy, a person enters a chamber that covers the entire body (save for the head) into which liquid nitrogen is pumped. The temperature of liquid nitrogen reaches as low as negative 256 degrees. People, in other words, flash freeze their body for a short time (between 3 and 30 minutes, typically).

The penis freeze

However, cryotherapy does not have to be restricted to a “full body” experience and can be applied locally instead. Some spas are now offering this service for the penis, although it is not an “immersive” experience as it is with the full body. Instead, somewhat warmer (about negative 160 degrees) liquid nitrogen vapor is blasted at the penis for about half an hour in order to freeze it. The idea is to create a more handsome penis.

Is this a good thing?

Should a man subject his penis to subzero temperatures? Is this something that can be good for his penis health?

First, it’s important to know that there is a startling lack of scientific studies on what might be called “cosmetic” cryotherapy – and that even medical cryotherapy is considered controversial by many doctors. The very real risk of frostbite exists, as does the possibility of inert gas asphyxiation.

In terms of flash freezing the penis, the proclaimed benefits include vasoconstriction, which opens up blood vessels more fully and rapidly, which should be a plus for erectile function; increased endorphin production, which could translate into a more relaxed receptivity for sexual pleasure; and more youthful, handsome penis skin due to increased production of new skin cells to replace those killed in the freezing process.

These pluses sound good on paper. Unfortunately, there have been no studies done to verify the claims that these promised benefits actually occur as a result of flash freezing the manhood. Whether the vasoconstriction lasts beyond the visit to the spa is questionable, and the fact that the process damages penis skin gives rise to worries about how it might affect the sensitivity as well. There also seems to be little fact-based evidence that freezing the penis results in a mighty rush of endorphins – or that the rush has long-lasting benefits if it does exist.

How Al Dente Pasta Can Assist Weight Loss


Unlike Americans, many of whom were raised on squishy canned spaghetti, Italians insist that their pasta be cooked al dente, or “to the tooth,” a consistency at which it still retains some substance. It may be slightly firm at the center. The pasta is chewier this way (perhaps a little chewier than most Americans like it.) But this is a good thing. Not only does it give you something to sink your teeth into so that you enjoy the exquisite pleasure and sensation of eating something. But it’s also better for your health — and better for your weight.

Italians like to eat pasta, not pablum!

They believe that eating pasta al dente is healthier for the digestive system than squishy, overcooked mush that sits heavy in the abdomen and makes you feel sluggish. When pasta is overcooked, it means it has absorbed its maximum amount of liquid. Pasta cooked al dente, on the other hand, can still absorb more during the digestive process and therefore digests more easily.

Al dente pasta also has a lower glycemic index than overcooked pasta, so it has less of an impact on your blood sugar levels. High-quality pasta made of hard durum wheat semolina (the kind Italians like) and whole grain pastas have staying power. Their low glycemic indices mean that they give you a slow, steady supply of fuel while allowing your blood sugar levels to stay constant, which helps protect you from getting hungry between meals.

When I made pasta (with a little bit of extra virgin olive oil) a regular part of my diet, I lost the desire to snack between meals. I didn’t need to. I wasn’t hungry! It has become a cornerstone in helping me maintain my weight without having to put much effort into it. But how do you achieve that magical consistency known as al dente? It’s as simple as one-two-three!

First, you have to cook your pasta in plenty of water. Most Americans don’t use enough. Figure at least one quart of water for every quarter pound of pasta, or four quarts for a pound (the weight of a typical package of spaghetti.) All I can say is use a big pot with lots of water! This is important because you want the water to return to a boil as quickly as possible after you add your pasta, otherwise it takes forever to cook it and timing can become a problem.

Copious amounts of water also give the pasta plenty of room to move around and cook evenly. Plentiful water also prevents the separate pieces from sticking together. You also need a lot of water because the pasta is going to double in size by absorbing it as it cooks. Now for the salt. Don’t add it until after the water has started boiling. They say that if you add it before that, it could pit your cookware before it dissolves. How much salt should you use? I like what Sophia Loren says in one of her cookbooks. Use a “large pinch.” Too little leaves the pasta bland, but too much will overpower it.

I usually just pour some in my hand and take a nice pinch. You can always adjust it if it’s not right. After a while, you’ll just know. You’ll be like an Italian cook, who goes by instinct. How do you know when the pasta is done? You can follow directions on the package, but those are just approximations. You really have to taste it to know for sure. That doesn’t sound too bad!

Whatever you do, don’t go throwing a piece against the wall to see if it sticks. That’s pasta abuse! And fun as it sounds, that’s not the Italian way, because it’s not accurate. If your pasta sticks to the wall, you’re in trouble. It’s overdone. Here’s what I do. I boil a very large pot of water. I add the pasta and a little salt, then give it a swirl and set the timer according to directions on the package. But I always check before the timer goes off. The pasta should be just a little tougher than you like it, because it will continue to cook as it drains in a colander.

As for portions, in general, think of what I was told in Tuscany: nothing bigger than your fist. Typically Italians eat two, maybe three ounces of pasta as part of a meal that also includes vegetables and maybe a small amount of lean protein. And remember, go easy on the sauce. Think of it as dressing your pasta in a light summer wrap, rather than a heavy winter overcoat. A light drizzle of a thin sauce or one or two tablespoons of a chunky sauce is all you need. You Can Heal Your Life Book Review


At a time in our lives where everything seems to be changing it is good to know that a book that was written many years ago still can have a profound impact on our lives.

Louise Hay’s book “You Can Heal Your Life” is one of those books. I purchased the gift edition back in November of last year but didn’t actually open the book till the end of December. I know now that it was the perfect time for me to read “You Can Heal Your Life”.

Over the past year I have been wondering what God had in store for my life, what my purpose in life was and feeling like I was running around in circles.

I started to read “You Can Heal Your Life” during the two weeks that I took off at the end of the year. On January 3, 2009 I was hospitalized for Bell’s Palsy. After being released from the hospital I came home and immediately opened up the book again and looked to see what Louise Hay had to say about Bell’s Palsy.

For a couple of years I have struggled with exactly that! I didn’t want to show anger or express my feelings of despair or my feelings of feeling totally out of control. I wanted to yell at anyone and everyone who had hurt me or had in some way made me feel out of control, even so much as blame God and myself for what I was going through. But I could not do it, I could not blame others or let go of those feelings of anger…I wanted to but I just couldn’t express them for the fear of feeling even more out of control.

After reading “You Can Heal Your Life” and working through my anger with affirmations that Louise suggested such as:

“It is safe for me to express my feelings. I forgive myself.”

I was able to express those angry feelings, I yelled, I screamed and then I release those feelings and let go.

Amazingly this past week, my Bell’s Palsy went away! I am now able to smile again without having my face droop. It is amazing how what we feel inside and out affects our health.

While I knew this to an extent, this time I understood thoroughly what I had to learn from this situation!

I have always said I was a stubborn person for me it doesn’t take 3 times to be hit on the head, nope it takes a 4th time before I wake up…” The Bell’s Palsy was the 4th time I have been hit on the head 🙂

Now everyday I open up “You Can Heal Your Life” or “The Present Moment-365 Daily affirmations” or “Everyday Positive Thinking” to remind me of things to say to myself that are positive.

I just open the books and I believe where they open up I was meant to read that day.

So if you are struggling with staying positive in this day and age or are wondering why you are suffering from an illness and are looking for help I strongly recommend any book written by Louise Hay or for that manner any book from a Hay House author.

Utilities Information For Buying Vacant Land


After being involved in over $50,000,000.00 (fifty million dollars) of land sales, I have learned that buying land that already has utilities installed, is one of the very best purchases you can make! In my experience, less than 5% of the vacant land available has utilities already installed. Additionally, installing utilities is one of the largest expenses you will pay to develop vacant land. Many times, the cost of installing utilities can exceed the purchase price of the land! No kidding. Especially if you run into problems. Experience has shown that often it will be wiser to buy vacant land with utilities installed, even though it costs more than the parcel of land next door.


Finding Vacant Land with utilities already installed, is a goldmine. The value of utilities is huge! Start to finish, utilities installation usually costs over $35,000 to $50,000. That’s just for one residence or structure. Your life will be so much easier if you can find Vacant Land with this improvement. Applying for and getting permits for utilities is very time consuming and expensive. Also, if you must hookup to pre-established utility systems, there will always be fees and possibly limitations or restrictions. You will have to cooperate with numerous entities. The three most common utilities are:

1. Water. You will get water from an established water company or install an independent well. It is rare, but possible, that you will be allowed to take water from a creek or spring. There are benefits to either system. Most importantly, you want to check your water source for its health. Many well systems will need filtering of salts, bacteria, etc. Always ask neighbors with existing wells how their water system is setup and what problems they face. Also ask neighbors how deep their well is? If you use the internet and go to your states Department of Ecology site, you can usually get info about the wells in the area with an address. This is a great resource that all land professionals use. We recommend and it may be required that you have the water tested by a laboratory service. Look in the phone book for “water testing”. Nice pure water from an independent well can be the best tasting and healthiest water you could ever drink. Large water company systems are usually very consistent tasting and healthy. But, there will usually be additives that are required by law, such as fluoride. Drawing water from a creek leaves you vulnerable to whatever is deposited upstream. You may also have trouble getting enough water pressure to satisfy your family’s needs.

2. Power. Will you get it from the local “grid” or produce your own. Hooking up to the local power company is usually easy and straight forward. Estimating costs can be very tough. Finding a neighbor that has hooked up recently is usually a great resource. Most power companies will give you an approximate bid to install. This will usually be only to your property line. Expect more costs to finish the hookup to your home and/or shop/barn. There are very specific installation requirements. Will your power run overhead or underground? How many transformers will be required? Is the area known for blackouts or brownouts? Do you need to be prepared with a secondary power source such as a generator? Installing a good woodstove system is highly advised. If the power is out, you can still have heat and a cooking source. We recommend you install a woodstove instead of a pellet stove in areas known for blackouts. Without power, your pellet stove will not work.

Many of you will contemplate and perhaps decide to use alternative power sources such as solar and/or wind power. Great! But be sure to get expert advice from someone with plenty of experience. Most wind generation systems do not provide enough power to run a typical home. Solar can supply enough power for a typical home. Sometimes, even providing enough to resell back to the local power company.

You will also need a battery storage system. Be sure to lock and secure your power system as this has recently become a preferred target for thieves. Many families that operate an alternative power system say that it will take many years for the system to pay for itself.

You may need to plan for 120-240-480 volts. Total amperage requirements must be estimated, prior to building, to avoid problems and extra costs.

3. Sewer. You will either hookup to the county, city, communities private sewer system or install your own septic system. You must allow for plenty of room for an on-site septic system. What constitutes fitness? How do you know if you are physically fit or not? Just like any other physical or physiological characteristics like height or weight, fitness is a relative measurement. We can safely assume that a weekend runner is more fit than a habitual couch potato, and in turn, is less fit compared to a marathon runner. 1. Resting heart rate – Your resting heart rate or pulse is the number of times your heart beats in a minute.
