Health Benefits of Eating Eel

Eels may not appeal to you visually as they do look rather like black snakes, but they are nutritious, healthy, and taste very good – and you don’t have to take my word for that! I love them and I didn’t have to acquire a taste for them. I probably ate quite a few of the plastic cupfuls of jellied eels before I realized what I was eating. My grandfather adored them and that was good enough for me. They are a meaty fishy thing as far as texture goes, but as they were in a jelly, they were also slippery.

London’s East End is famous for its pie, mash and liquor, and its jellies or stewed eels. The working classes were eating them heartily in the 1800s and the tradition continues today. Tourists and locals alike can be found in the pie shops trying out the local ‘delicacies’ if you can call mashed potatoes and a meat pie covered in pea sauce which may have been made with the water leftover from cooking the eels.

Eels are good for you as they contain Omega-6 fatty acids, and so have all the benefits of other oily fish such as mackerel and salmon. They contain the minerals calcium, magnesium, phosphorous, potassium, sodium, selenium (the feel good mineral as I like to think of it), manganese, zinc and iron. As for minerals they are a very good source of vitamins A and B12 and also a very good source of protein. They contain no carbohydrates, but have 18 amino acids and vitamins A, C, E (in the form of Alpha-Tocopherol) k, The B-complex vitamins, B1, B2, B3, B6, folate, B5, B12 and choline. This means that they are heart healthy, protect the central nervous system, help vision, promote hair growth and help rejuvenate the skin, and of course there’s selenium, good for the brain and a mood enhancer.

This year, the price of eels and elvers (baby eels) has sky-rocketed, partly because the populations in the Thames have decreased, and partly because people have woken up to the fact that eels are healthy and tasty too. In April 2012, American fishermen in Portland, Maine, were saying that a pound of eels could fetch more than $2,000. The season for elvers is short, being from February to May.

I will never forget the first time I saw these small, transparent, wriggling creatures crawling over the prawns and fish in Swansea market. I got over it though and ate them when we got home. You can still buy them there with the fresh cockles and laverbread (cooked seaweed). Jellied eels can be prepared at home, they are boiled in water and spices and the water is allowed to cool and then it becomes jelly as the eel is fatty, as I mentioned above. You can eat them hot or cold, and if you are in the East End of London, they will be served in a bowl, and you will be given them already chopped up as you traditionally eat them with a fork and spoon – no knife.

It seems as though they are not as cheap as they used to be- but they are just as tasty, so forget your prejudices and try them. They are good for you.

Oral Sex Games for the Best Penis Health

Although some couples stick to an “intercourse exclusive” arrangement, many others like to expand their boundaries beyond penetrative penis-vagina sex – and for these couples, oral sex is an obvious alternative. There’s nothing wrong with traditional oral sex by any means, but the more playful couples may wish to add a dollop of extra fun to their proceedings, and so may be interested in what games they can play to make the oral experience even more engaging. As long as a man’s penis health or a woman’s vaginal health isn’t called into question, jumping into oral sex games can be part of a good, healthy relationship.

Simply by using their imagination, couples can come up with oral sex games of their own devising. However, to jump-start the process, the following are a few games they may wish to try to add to the experience.

Oral sex dice

There are countless variations using dice to direct oral sex activities. Perhaps the most basic is for one partner to roll the dice. The number on the dice determines the length of time they administer orally to their partner. For example, depending upon what method of measurement has been agreed upon, a woman who rolls a seven might give her man’s penis seven licks or fellate him for seven minutes.

But there can be other variations. For example, have the two dice stand for different things. One dice stands for, say, the number of minutes an oral activity must be performed. For the other dice, each number has a different meaning, such as:

– One – traditional oral sex

– Two – oral sex with an ice cube in the mouth

– Three – focusing solely on the balls (for the man) or the breasts (for the woman)

– Four – oral sex while humming

– Five – both partners perform orally on each other simultaneously

– Six – roller’s choice – whatever he or she wants to do orally

Guided by a game show

Pick a televised game show, preferably one with only two competitors or two teams. The man chooses one contestant/team, the woman the other. When one person’s contestant or team is up, they are receiving oral sex from the other, and vice versa. If their choices compete against each other at the same time, both partners go at it simultaneously.

Favorite dessert

A messy but tasty game, each partner selects his favorite dessert and recreates that on their partner’s midsection. So the woman who loves a banana split plops three scoops of ice cream on the man’s banana, adds sauce, nuts, whipped cream, etc. and – bon appetit! Afterward, the man indulges his desire for chocolate cake by spreading icing all around his partner’s vagina.

Drinking game variation

Select a movie or TV show. Whenever someone says or does a certain thing, one of the partners performs oral sex on the other. For example, if watching a football game, the man goes down whenever team A has the ball and does so until team B gets the ball, at which point the woman returns the favor. (If choosing a movie or TV series, try to pick one that has a certain amount of repetitiveness, such as a catchphrase that is uttered often, or a tendency for the main character to wear yellow, etc., and use those are the guide for knowing when to perform orally.)

Oral sex games are even more fun for the woman when the penis she is fellating is the beneficiary of a top notch penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin). A penis blessed with a crème that contains both a high-end emollient (such as Shea butter) and a natural hydrator (such as vitamin E) is less likely to have the kind of dry skin that causes a woman to hesitate. And if the crème also contains alpha lipoic acid, a potent antioxidant, it is protected from free radical damage that causes penile skin to thin and age.

Penis Health Tip: Don’t Flash Freeze the Penis

Maintaining first rate penis health is an admirable goal for any man. But sometimes there can be a bit of confusion about what exactly is best for penis health. For example, when a new technique or treatment appears on the horizon, it may promoted as a benefit but might actually have some downside to it. Such is likely the case with the developing trend to try to flash freeze the penis.

Say what?

Yes, there has been a recent development in sexual matters in which people are encouraged to flash freeze their genitals. And it’s drawn from the larger trend toward cryotherapy.

Cryotherapy

Originally, cryotherapy was the use of very low temperatures in medical therapy. It was developed as a way to treat a range of lesions, both malignant and benign. In a modified, very local way, it is often used to “freeze off” stubborn warts, for example.

More recently, cryotherapy has become a trendy (and typically expensive) spa treatment. Full-body cryotherapy is often used to relieve extensive muscle aches, to lose weight and to rejuvenate their skin.

With full-body cryotherapy, a person enters a chamber that covers the entire body (save for the head) into which liquid nitrogen is pumped. The temperature of liquid nitrogen reaches as low as negative 256 degrees. People, in other words, flash freeze their body for a short time (between 3 and 30 minutes, typically).

The penis freeze

However, cryotherapy does not have to be restricted to a “full body” experience and can be applied locally instead. Some spas are now offering this service for the penis, although it is not an “immersive” experience as it is with the full body. Instead, somewhat warmer (about negative 160 degrees) liquid nitrogen vapor is blasted at the penis for about half an hour in order to freeze it. The idea is to create a more handsome penis.

Is this a good thing?

Should a man subject his penis to subzero temperatures? Is this something that can be good for his penis health?

First, it’s important to know that there is a startling lack of scientific studies on what might be called “cosmetic” cryotherapy – and that even medical cryotherapy is considered controversial by many doctors. The very real risk of frostbite exists, as does the possibility of inert gas asphyxiation.

In terms of flash freezing the penis, the proclaimed benefits include vasoconstriction, which opens up blood vessels more fully and rapidly, which should be a plus for erectile function; increased endorphin production, which could translate into a more relaxed receptivity for sexual pleasure; and more youthful, handsome penis skin due to increased production of new skin cells to replace those killed in the freezing process.

These pluses sound good on paper. Unfortunately, there have been no studies done to verify the claims that these promised benefits actually occur as a result of flash freezing the manhood. Whether the vasoconstriction lasts beyond the visit to the spa is questionable, and the fact that the process damages penis skin gives rise to worries about how it might affect the sensitivity as well. There also seems to be little fact-based evidence that freezing the penis results in a mighty rush of endorphins – or that the rush has long-lasting benefits if it does exist.

Rather than try to flash freeze the penis, a man is much better off with a more basic penis health regimen – simple hygiene, checking for signs of problems and regularly using a top drawer penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin). The best crème will include L-arginine, an ingredient which naturally helps to boost nitric oxide production and thereby safely keep penile blood vessels open and receptive. The crème should also include alpha lipoic acid, a potent antioxidant that battles free radicals and decreases oxidative stress, thereby keeping penis skin looking younger and healthier – without freezing.

Diosmin for Circulation & Vein Benefits

Believe it or not, there is a natural ingredient from Europe that can help change the way your legs feel and the way you feel about the circulation in your legs. Whether we realize it or not, the circulation in our legs can have a huge influence on how we feel and what we do everyday and perhaps even more so every evening. The comfort level of our legs, or better said, their discomfort level at the end of the day can adversely affect our social life and fitness activities – not to mention adversely affecting our sleep. If our legs felt better perhaps we would find it easier to do the things we’d love to do, but find it so difficult to muster the motivation. As if the way our legs can feel at the end of day isn’t challenging enough, the changes in the circulation in our legs as we age can seem even more hopeless and discouraging. Now add to that the seeming conspiracy among fashion designers to have us exposing even larger portions of our aging legs and we have a problem that over 80 million Americans with varicose veins understand all too well. (1).

Unfortunately, about half of all American women will develop varicose or spider veins at some point in their lives (2). Not only are they unsightly, these leg problems can also cause significant discomfort. Typically, varicose veins are characterized by bulging, blue, sometimes painful and inflamed veins that appear primarily in the calves and thighs. Spider veins, on the other hand, show up as a web of fine lines that can make your legs look like a road map.

While age and heredity play a role in the development of varicose and spider veins, weight gain, pregnancy, menopause and the use of hormone replacement therapy can also trigger these vein problems. Making matters worse, chronic inactivity, standing for long periods of time or habitually crossing your legs can make you more prone to injured veins (2).

Conventional treatments include surgical stripping, injecting the veins with a chemical irritant or zapping them with lasers. While these approaches can remove existing varicose or spider veins, they will not prevent new ones from developing, since these high-tech treatments do not address the underlying problem of poor circulation. Worse yet, these procedures can also cause infection, scarring, nerve damage and pain (26). If these radical treatments are not an option for you, you’ll be happy to hear that there is a natural approach that not only improves the appearance of these ropy, bulging veins, it also fosters leg health to prevent future problems.

Veins Explained

To understand how varicose veins develop, you need to know a little bit about how blood moves through the body. Essentially, there are two types of major circulatory vessels in the body: the arteries, which channel blood from the heart to the extremities, and the veins, which bring blood from the extremities back to the heart. Of all the veins in your body, leg veins work the hardest to carry blood back to the heart. To accomplish this difficult task, your legs are equipped with specially designed one-way valves that keep the blood moving in the right direction. As efficiently as these valves work, your legs still fight a constant battle against the natural pull of gravity. If the veins can’t move the blood efficiently or the one-way valves that prevent the blood from backwashing fail to close properly, blood collects in the legs. This pooling of blood then stretches the vein, causing swelling and injury to the vein’s walls (3).

Depending on the extent of the enlargement, these veins can show up as either spider or varicose veins. Spider veins are broken capillaries and small veins that appear as jagged red, blue or purple lines on the surface of the skin. While they aren’t painful, they can be extremely unattractive. Varicose veins, on the other hand, are thick veins that run deeper beneath the skin. They are far larger and much less attractive than spider veins – and they can make your legs feel fatigued, heavy, achy or even itchy. Varicose veins can also cause burning, throbbing, cramping and restlessness.

While these conditions aren’t usually dangerous, severe cases can lead to chronic venous insufficiency – a persistent inability of the leg veins to adequately return blood back to the heart (4). Varicose veins are also associated with the development of skin ulcers or a chronic inflammation of a vein – a condition known as phlebitis. Phlebitis is often accompanied by formation of a blood clot, a dangerous situation since the clot can move from the leg vein and travel to the lungs (2).

How Al Dente Pasta Can Assist Weight Loss

Unlike Americans, many of whom were raised on squishy canned spaghetti, Italians insist that their pasta be cooked al dente, or “to the tooth,” a consistency at which it still retains some substance. It may be slightly firm at the center. The pasta is chewier this way (perhaps a little chewier than most Americans like it.) But this is a good thing. Not only does it give you something to sink your teeth into so that you enjoy the exquisite pleasure and sensation of eating something. But it’s also better for your health — and better for your weight.

Italians like to eat pasta, not pablum!

They believe that eating pasta al dente is healthier for the digestive system than squishy, overcooked mush that sits heavy in the abdomen and makes you feel sluggish. When pasta is overcooked, it means it has absorbed its maximum amount of liquid. Pasta cooked al dente, on the other hand, can still absorb more during the digestive process and therefore digests more easily.

Al dente pasta also has a lower glycemic index than overcooked pasta, so it has less of an impact on your blood sugar levels. High-quality pasta made of hard durum wheat semolina (the kind Italians like) and whole grain pastas have staying power. Their low glycemic indices mean that they give you a slow, steady supply of fuel while allowing your blood sugar levels to stay constant, which helps protect you from getting hungry between meals.

When I made pasta (with a little bit of extra virgin olive oil) a regular part of my diet, I lost the desire to snack between meals. I didn’t need to. I wasn’t hungry! It has become a cornerstone in helping me maintain my weight without having to put much effort into it. But how do you achieve that magical consistency known as al dente? It’s as simple as one-two-three!

First, you have to cook your pasta in plenty of water. Most Americans don’t use enough. Figure at least one quart of water for every quarter pound of pasta, or four quarts for a pound (the weight of a typical package of spaghetti.) All I can say is use a big pot with lots of water! This is important because you want the water to return to a boil as quickly as possible after you add your pasta, otherwise it takes forever to cook it and timing can become a problem.

Copious amounts of water also give the pasta plenty of room to move around and cook evenly. Plentiful water also prevents the separate pieces from sticking together. You also need a lot of water because the pasta is going to double in size by absorbing it as it cooks. Now for the salt. Don’t add it until after the water has started boiling. They say that if you add it before that, it could pit your cookware before it dissolves. How much salt should you use? I like what Sophia Loren says in one of her cookbooks. Use a “large pinch.” Too little leaves the pasta bland, but too much will overpower it.

I usually just pour some in my hand and take a nice pinch. You can always adjust it if it’s not right. After a while, you’ll just know. You’ll be like an Italian cook, who goes by instinct. How do you know when the pasta is done? You can follow directions on the package, but those are just approximations. You really have to taste it to know for sure. That doesn’t sound too bad!

Whatever you do, don’t go throwing a piece against the wall to see if it sticks. That’s pasta abuse! And fun as it sounds, that’s not the Italian way, because it’s not accurate. If your pasta sticks to the wall, you’re in trouble. It’s overdone. Here’s what I do. I boil a very large pot of water. I add the pasta and a little salt, then give it a swirl and set the timer according to directions on the package. But I always check before the timer goes off. The pasta should be just a little tougher than you like it, because it will continue to cook as it drains in a colander.

As for portions, in general, think of what I was told in Tuscany: nothing bigger than your fist. Typically Italians eat two, maybe three ounces of pasta as part of a meal that also includes vegetables and maybe a small amount of lean protein. And remember, go easy on the sauce. Think of it as dressing your pasta in a light summer wrap, rather than a heavy winter overcoat. A light drizzle of a thin sauce or one or two tablespoons of a chunky sauce is all you need. And even less for pesto.…

You Can Heal Your Life Book Review

At a time in our lives where everything seems to be changing it is good to know that a book that was written many years ago still can have a profound impact on our lives.

Louise Hay’s book “You Can Heal Your Life” is one of those books. I purchased the gift edition back in November of last year but didn’t actually open the book till the end of December. I know now that it was the perfect time for me to read “You Can Heal Your Life”.

Over the past year I have been wondering what God had in store for my life, what my purpose in life was and feeling like I was running around in circles.

I started to read “You Can Heal Your Life” during the two weeks that I took off at the end of the year. On January 3, 2009 I was hospitalized for Bell’s Palsy. After being released from the hospital I came home and immediately opened up the book again and looked to see what Louise Hay had to say about Bell’s Palsy.

Bell’s Palsy-Extreme control over anger. Unwillingness to express feelings.

For a couple of years I have struggled with exactly that! I didn’t want to show anger or express my feelings of despair or my feelings of feeling totally out of control. I wanted to yell at anyone and everyone who had hurt me or had in some way made me feel out of control, even so much as blame God and myself for what I was going through. But I could not do it, I could not blame others or let go of those feelings of anger…I wanted to but I just couldn’t express them for the fear of feeling even more out of control.

After reading “You Can Heal Your Life” and working through my anger with affirmations that Louise suggested such as:

“It is safe for me to express my feelings. I forgive myself.”

I was able to express those angry feelings, I yelled, I screamed and then I release those feelings and let go.

Amazingly this past week, my Bell’s Palsy went away! I am now able to smile again without having my face droop. It is amazing how what we feel inside and out affects our health.

While I knew this to an extent, this time I understood thoroughly what I had to learn from this situation!

I have always said I was a stubborn person for me it doesn’t take 3 times to be hit on the head, nope it takes a 4th time before I wake up…” The Bell’s Palsy was the 4th time I have been hit on the head 🙂

Now everyday I open up “You Can Heal Your Life” or “The Present Moment-365 Daily affirmations” or “Everyday Positive Thinking” to remind me of things to say to myself that are positive.

I just open the books and I believe where they open up I was meant to read that day.

So if you are struggling with staying positive in this day and age or are wondering why you are suffering from an illness and are looking for help I strongly recommend any book written by Louise Hay or for that manner any book from a Hay House author.

“If you are willing to do the mental work, almost anything can be healed”-Louise Hay

Tips To Increase Your Brain Powers

The brain is a small but most powerful organ of the body that controls all our thinking, feelings, actions, emotions and much more. This small organ is made up of billions of neurons that grow with proper diet and exercise. Your success very much depends on the sharpness of your mind, improved memory and thinking skills. Take care of your brain and enjoy a successful life.

I am giving below some tips that will help you to substantially increase your brain powers:

1. Eat Brain Healthy Foods

Some foods are particularly good for the brain which you must include in your diet such as fish, eggs, leafy vegetables, tomatoes, broccoli, blueberries, whole grains, almonds, walnuts, peanuts and pumpkin seeds. Avoid alcoholic and carbonated drinks instead drink plain water and green tea.

2. Take Care of Your Overall Fitness

The health of our brain is very much related to our overall fitness. The brain remains healthy in a healthy body. Physical exercise is not only good for your body but also for your brain. Do whatever exercise you like such as, walking, jogging, swimming, aerobics, yoga etc., but do it regularly.

3. Meditation and Deep Breathing

Meditation is a great way of relaxing your body and mind thus increasing your brain powers. Some people do meditation for seeking spiritual enlightenment while others do for inner peace and calmness. Always do meditation in a calm and quiet place. However, you can do deep breathing any time and at any place. Apart from the numerous health benefits of deep breathing, it is also helpful for the growth of brain cells.

4. Get Enough Sleep

Most people ignore the importance of a good night’s sleep. The lack of sleep can badly harm the functioning of the brain. If you feel that your mind is blank or sleepy then it means that you need rest. Go to bed and sleep. Take enough sleep daily and see your brain functioning much better because sleep helps your brain consolidate and organize information. Also taking a 15-20 minutes nap during the day can sharpen your mind and enhance your decision making powers.

5. Read and Write

Reading and writing are good habits and quite helpful in increasing the brain powers. Keep some good books in your bed room and read a few pages before going to sleep. Also practice writing, at least a few sentences, on a new topic every day.

6. Think Positively

Stress, anxiety, depression and negative thinking are the main culprits of destroying the brain nerve cells. Get rid of all kind of negativity from your mind, as far as possible. Develop the habit of seeing the bright side of things. Positive thinking is a way of living a happy life.

7. Give Task To Your Brain

Give your brain the task of solving simple problems, puzzles and crosswords etc. The more you use your brain the more the brain cells will grow. However, avoid over thinking and multi-tasking. Do one thing at a time and do not over burden your mind with multiple tasks.

8. Love Nature

It is always helpful to spend some time in a natural environment. Go to the mountains, walk in the jungle, do boating in the rivers, sit by the side of the lake and appreciate the surrounding natural beauty. Nature refreshes your mind and heart. Sitting in a natural surrounding and breathing deeply takes away all your depression and strengthens your brain muscles.

Utilities Information For Buying Vacant Land

After being involved in over $50,000,000.00 (fifty million dollars) of land sales, I have learned that buying land that already has utilities installed, is one of the very best purchases you can make! In my experience, less than 5% of the vacant land available has utilities already installed. Additionally, installing utilities is one of the largest expenses you will pay to develop vacant land. Many times, the cost of installing utilities can exceed the purchase price of the land! No kidding. Especially if you run into problems. Experience has shown that often it will be wiser to buy vacant land with utilities installed, even though it costs more than the parcel of land next door.

UTILITIES

Finding Vacant Land with utilities already installed, is a goldmine. The value of utilities is huge! Start to finish, utilities installation usually costs over $35,000 to $50,000. That’s just for one residence or structure. Your life will be so much easier if you can find Vacant Land with this improvement. Applying for and getting permits for utilities is very time consuming and expensive. Also, if you must hookup to pre-established utility systems, there will always be fees and possibly limitations or restrictions. You will have to cooperate with numerous entities. The three most common utilities are:

1. Water. You will get water from an established water company or install an independent well. It is rare, but possible, that you will be allowed to take water from a creek or spring. There are benefits to either system. Most importantly, you want to check your water source for its health. Many well systems will need filtering of salts, bacteria, etc. Always ask neighbors with existing wells how their water system is setup and what problems they face. Also ask neighbors how deep their well is? If you use the internet and go to your states Department of Ecology site, you can usually get info about the wells in the area with an address. This is a great resource that all land professionals use. We recommend and it may be required that you have the water tested by a laboratory service. Look in the phone book for “water testing”. Nice pure water from an independent well can be the best tasting and healthiest water you could ever drink. Large water company systems are usually very consistent tasting and healthy. But, there will usually be additives that are required by law, such as fluoride. Drawing water from a creek leaves you vulnerable to whatever is deposited upstream. You may also have trouble getting enough water pressure to satisfy your family’s needs.

2. Power. Will you get it from the local “grid” or produce your own. Hooking up to the local power company is usually easy and straight forward. Estimating costs can be very tough. Finding a neighbor that has hooked up recently is usually a great resource. Most power companies will give you an approximate bid to install. This will usually be only to your property line. Expect more costs to finish the hookup to your home and/or shop/barn. There are very specific installation requirements. Will your power run overhead or underground? How many transformers will be required? Is the area known for blackouts or brownouts? Do you need to be prepared with a secondary power source such as a generator? Installing a good woodstove system is highly advised. If the power is out, you can still have heat and a cooking source. We recommend you install a woodstove instead of a pellet stove in areas known for blackouts. Without power, your pellet stove will not work.

Many of you will contemplate and perhaps decide to use alternative power sources such as solar and/or wind power. Great! But be sure to get expert advice from someone with plenty of experience. Most wind generation systems do not provide enough power to run a typical home. Solar can supply enough power for a typical home. Sometimes, even providing enough to resell back to the local power company.

You will also need a battery storage system. Be sure to lock and secure your power system as this has recently become a preferred target for thieves. Many families that operate an alternative power system say that it will take many years for the system to pay for itself.

You may need to plan for 120-240-480 volts. Total amperage requirements must be estimated, prior to building, to avoid problems and extra costs.

3. Sewer. You will either hookup to the county, city, communities private sewer system or install your own septic system. You must allow for plenty of room for an on-site septic system. You will not be able to drive on or build in this area. You will always be required to allow space for your well system and a buffer area. …

How to Determine Your Overall Fitness Level

What constitutes fitness? How do you know if you are physically fit or not? Just like any other physical or physiological characteristics like height or weight, fitness is a relative measurement. We can safely assume that a weekend runner is more fit than a habitual couch potato, and in turn, is less fit compared to a marathon runner. Experts use several tests to judge a person’s level of fitness. Here are some of them:

1. Resting heart rate – Your resting heart rate or pulse is the number of times your heart beats in a minute. It indicates how hard your heart needs to work in order to pump your blood around your body. A normal resting rate should be between 60 to 90 beats per minute. Well-trained athletes fall into the low-end of this normal range because their hearts have become very efficient pumping machines.

Heart rate can be affected by many factors like medicines, stress, physical activity, or stimulants like coffee. The best way to get your resting heart rate is to measure it first thing in the morning for three consecutive days.

2. Heart rate after exercise or physical activity – Your heart rate naturally goes up during exercise or physical exertion. Try to exercise for 15 minutes on a stationary bike or treadmill and then get your pulse rate. This number, just like the resting heart rate, should go down after sometime of getting into a regular aerobic exercise program.

3. Blood pressure – Blood pressure is a measure of how hard the heart has to beat in order to push your blood through your blood vessels. It also indicates how open your blood vessels are. The baseline normal blood pressure reading is 120/80 although there is a growing consensus to define it as 115/75. Blood pressure varies throughout during the day depending on several factors like mental state and physical activity. If it measures consistently higher than 140/90 throughout the day, for several days, you are considered hypertensive and should see a doctor for prescription medicines to lower it.

A regular exercise program helps to normalize your blood pressure by helping your blood vessels to relax. Again if you’re hypertensive, be sure to consult your doctor about the types of exercise routines that are appropriate for you. He or she may forbid you to do weight training exercises which can cause a rapid rise in blood pressure.

4. Percentage of body fat – In general, the more body fat you have, the more prone you are to developing health problems like heart disease, hypertension, and even some types of cancer. However, this must be considered in conjunction with other factors like diet and exercise habits. Also, where your fat is distributed may be more important; studies show that abdominal fat, the kind that deposits itself around your waist (and in your abdomen), is more associated with heart disease risks than fat that is deposited around your thighs.

This is not to say body fat is bad; it is possible to be too thin. For women, for example, having too little body fat (less than 16%) may lead to problems like bone loss and irregular menstrual periods.

How to measure your body fat? One way is the so-called skinfold caliper test where the tester pinches your skin as if to pull away your fat from your muscles and bones. It is done on several different points like your upper arms, your abdomen, or the back of your shoulder. Another way is simpler and is called the Body Mass Index (BMI) measurement. It is calculated by dividing your weight (in kg) by the square of your height (in meters). If using pounds and inches, divide your weight (in pounds) by the square of your height (in inches) and multiply by 703. A BMI value of 18.5 to 25 is considered optimal. Higher than 25 is considered overweight, and lower than 18.5 is considered underweight.

5. Strength – Certain exercises such as sit-ups, leg extensions, and push-ups indicate the strength of your upper body, lower body, and abdominal muscles. If you can barely do a few sit-ups or push-ups, you may have been out of shape for some time. You may want to consider weightlifting to improve your strength.

6. Flexibility – This is a little bit overlooked compared to strength, but flexibility or the ability to bend your body and joints to full range, is a good measure of your overall fitness. You lose flexibility as you age, and you may find that you are less able to do some postures or bending motions that you could easily do when you were younger. Doing stretching exercises is the best way to improve your flexibility.

All these factors must be considered to determine your overall fitness level. Tests …

Cheap Health Insurance In Alabama

Did you know that more than 50% of all Alabama residents who have health insurance report that the monthly cost of their coverage is a severe strain on their family’s budget? And did you know that the cost of a medical policy here in Alabama has gotten so out of hand that fully 16% of all residents of the state can’t afford to buy any health protection at all? If you’re having trouble affording medical coverage take heart because there are several ways for you to reduce your costs almost overnight.

Start by simply setting up an automatic payment plan for your premium. If your company doesn’t have to bill you each month they pass that savings on to you.

If you can’t get low-cost group coverage where you work don’t lose hope. You’d be simply amazed at the number of clubs, groups, organizations and associations that offer their members low-cost group health as a perk for being a member. Even some religious organizations are now offering their congregations group medical.

If you don’t belong to any clubs or groups that offer group medical coverage, see if any of your friends or family do. If so, see if you can join.

Obviously you are not going to get the cheapest coverage if you smoke or use chew. If you’re serious about finding the cheapest possible policy then you’re going to have to be just as serious about quitting all tobacco products.

Weight is another consideration. Health companies base your premium, at least in part, on your Body Mass Index, or BMI. This is a fancy way of saying that if you are overweight you’ll pay more for your coverage.

The good news is that if you can somehow lose even just a handful of pounds you might slip down a rung on your company’s BMI scale and if that should happen then you could be in for a rather nice savings each month.

If you don’t see your doctor on a regular basis then raising your co-payment from 25% to 50% will save you a lot of money every single month.

Of course, the fastest way to reduce the cost of your premium is to raise your deductible. Raising your deductible can have a dramatic effect on how much you pay each month. Just keep in mind that you can’t raise your deductible past the point at which you can afford to pay for it.

You’ll also save quite a lot of money if you buy your health plan on the internet. Insurance companies have almost no overhead when they make an online sale and they pass these savings on to you.

Keep in mind that if you want to have the largest choice of prices available to you then you’ll have to take a little extra time and find at least 3 different websites that let you run price comparisons for medical coverage in Alabama.

But once you’ve made your comparisons on at least 3 different sites then all you have to do is to pick the lowest price you’ve found and you’re done!

How to Increase Pancreas Function

If average individuals would be asked where their pancreas is located or the function of the pancreas, many of them would scratch their head. You might hear the vague answer “It is somewhere inside the stomach”, “pancreas causes diabetes”, “pancreatic cancer is an awful disease” and so on.

The pancreas is a vital organ for our body. People can survive without the stomach, small intestine and colon but not long without the pancreas. Life depends on this small gland, deeply hidden inside the abdomen cavity. The pancreas is an organ with dual tasks. Most individuals are only aware about the role of the pancreas in sugar metabolism and that pancreas produces insulin, the vital hormone to prevent diabetes.

The second function of the pancreas is producing digestive enzymes – powerful proteins that split food we eat into particles small enough to travel through the intestinal wall so that we can digest and assimilate this food.

Only by using our pancreatic digestive enzymes, we can transform our food into the energy and make our own cells. Without pancreatic digestive enzymes we could not live. The function of many organs and systems and the whole body’s health, strongly depend upon the health of our digestive system and especially our pancreas.

What is happened if pancreas produces low amount or not good quality of digestive enzymes?

Our digestive system is long muscular tube, stretching from the mouth to the anus. Pancreas releases pancreatic juice filled with digestive enzymes into the duodenum – the first part of the small intestine. Small intestine is the most important place for digestion of proteins, fats and carbohydrates. There also place for vitamins and minerals to get into our system.

Without proper amount of pancreatic enzymes indigested food fermented, spoiled, rot by intestinal micro organisms and irritates the intestinal walls. To get rid of this waste our body has just two openings: mouth and anus.

Ask anyone around and almost everyone has some sort of unpleasant GI symptoms: gas, abdominal distention, belching, heartburn, abdominal cramps, pains, nausea/vomiting, diarrhea/constipation, and so on. These are symptoms of indigestion and have strong correlation with low pancreatic function.

Most human diseases depend on two big problems:

1. The deficiency of vital substances in the body such as water, proteins, minerals, trace elements, vitamins and so on: As your car without gasoline would stop moving, so will the deficiency of the vital nutrients stop the organs from performing their proper tasks.

2. Toxicity (chemical or biological): Toxicity literally kills the cells and harmfully influences the body’s metabolism causing inflammation, pain, cancer development and so on.

These two factors are directly related to pancreatic health.

The pancreas is a hard worker. It produces normally almost 60-85 oz of a clear, colorless, alkaline fluid. This is pancreatic juice, which consists of very important ingredients for digestion such as water, minerals, proteins, bicarbonates and enzymes.

Non-processed, natural, whole food consists of plenty of digestive enzymes. Lack of these enzymes in the modern foods causes huge effort for pancreas to manufacture its digestive enzymes. Therefore, many modern people have large pancreases.

Chemicals such as preservatives, colorings, additives, hormones, antibiotics, pesticides in the processed food are not healthy for pancreas. The worst enemy for pancreas is also alcohol. Alcoholic pancreatititis; inflammation of this gland caused by alcohol is the most common pancreatic disorder.

So, how to increase pancreas function naturally? By common sense, we need to supply the body with natural digestive enzymes from food. Pancreas is alkaline gland hence our food has to be alkaline with sufficient amount of the minerals, bicarbonates and vitamins for proper manufacturing of pancreatic digestive enzymes and appropriate alkaline environment to work.

Any actions to decrease inner toxicity such as drinking water, healing mineral water, herbal teas, juices and blends, colon hydrotherapy, massage, infrared sauna, controlling constipation, reestablishing friendly intestinal flora, etc., may help to cleanse the pancreas.

Europeans widely practice vacation in healthy mineral spas. Healthy foods, drinking healing mineral water, massage, colonics, and exercises improve health of thousands people in Europe and another countries.

Balneotherapy (healing with mineral water) is known science in European medical schools so many European doctors recommend their patients with chronic pancreatic disorders healing mineral spas.

The most known drinking healing mineral water is from the Karlovy Vary resort in the Czech Republic – the spa pearl of Europe. The Czech town of Karlovy Vary has been a famous international healing mineral water resort since 18 century. Europeans call the town’s mineral water “healing gift from the earth” or the “miracle mineral water.” Guests from Europe and Asia took a trip to Karlovy Vary for one to six month stays to drink the Karlovy Vary Healing Mineral Water (KVHMW) for different chronic health conditions, cleansing and detoxification.

Hundreds years this healing mineral water was distributed all …

Fire Prevention in Healthcare Facilities

With a large amount of residents physically unable to move themselves, fires are a particular problem for the healthcare industry. Many facilities have been designed to be fireproof, however because burning materials often release toxic vapors fire prevention has and always will be a top priority. All employees can make a difference with fire prevention. With the proper training all healthcare facilities can become much safer institutions.

To help prevent fires employees need to know what starts them. All fires involve three elements: Heat, Fuel and Oxygen. Removing any of these elements will stop a fire. Fires are started with heat as the ignition and heat can be generated by anything that is hot – open flames, chemical reactions, Faulty electrical, overheated equipment and hot surfaces. Once a fire starts it will grow hotter and it will not stop until one of the three elements has been vanquished.

Flames are created by vapors coming off of a flammable material. The temperature at which a material gives off flammable vapors is known as a flashpoint. The flashpoint can change depending on how much oxygen is in the air. For instance an ordinary cleanser that would have a high flashpoint in normal air might be flammable in an area where a patient is being given oxygen.

What fuels a fire determines what will be used to extinguish it. Anesthetic gases can be extinguished by shutting off the gas, however most fires are extinguished by applying a material that eliminates the oxygen or the fuel. Applying the wrong substance can be devastating though. For instance, using water can cause burning liquids to spread and water conducts electricity at electrical fires.

Fires are separated into four classes: A, B, C & D. Class A fires involve normal substances like wood, paper or cardboard. These fires can be extinguished with water. Class B fires are fueled by flammable liquids and gasses. Chemical foams are the best way to extinguish these types of fires. Class C Fires are electrical and involve electrical equipment. They are extinguished by non-conductive agents. Class D fires are fueled by combustible metals. These type of fires are extremely difficult to put out and must be left to professional to take extinguish.

When a fire starts healthcare workers need to act quickly. The best way to insure this is an emergency action plan. The plan will carefully define how to report a fire, who will fight the fire, who is responsible for patient safety, evacuation procedures and lastly care of patients during an emergency.

The R.A.C.E. acronym is an easy way to remember what to do.

The first thing you should do is RESCUE. If anyone is in immediate danger get them out of the room and shut the door. ALARM is next. Make sure the fire alarm is activated and 911 has been called. Thirdly CONFINE the fire. Make sure doors are shut and the flames or smoke won’t spread to other parts of the facility. The last step is EXTINGUISH. If you have been trained to use a fire extinguisher this is the time to use it, but make sure you are not in danger first. Always, evaluate whether you will be safe during the extinguishing process. Never try to put out a fire if you are not trained, the fire has grown too large, or if you have to open the door to where the fire is.

In office and industrial settings all staff is advised to exit immediately during a fire situation, however in healthcare facilities this is not practical. All non-essential personal and visitors are advised to follow posted escape routes, but in most cases patients are “defended” from the fire and not moved. In many cases, moving patients is more dangerous than the fire. When evacuating make sure you NEVER use the elevator, make certain the all doors are cool to the touch and if smoke rises crawl on the floor if necessary.

The best way to fight a fire is to make sure it doesn’t start in the first place. Cigarettes are by far the most common cause of fires in healthcare facilities. Laundry areas, kitchens, storage closets and nurses stations are some of the most common areas for fires to start. You need to be very careful around flammable liquids and in areas where oxygen is being administered.

In conclusion, everyone is an important part of your facilities fire prevention plan. Employee training on fire prevention is crucial and can save lives. Have an emergency plan with clear instructions and make sure all employees know their part in a fire emergency.

Well, it is vital to maintain your weight at normal healthy levels due to the fact that this enables you to maintain healthy eyesight. One way to accomplish this goal is to consume fewer calories. Eat a diet rich in complex carbohydrates and fiber that has a tendency to increase the body’s metabolic rate thereby keeping insulin levels in the body at a healthy range. This sends a signal to your body not to store fat. Increase your consumption of vision health foods such as spinach, broccoli and asparagus in your diet. These are fat burning foods that also improve vision health as well. Also, in terms of diet, eat foods rich in omega 3 fatty acids. These foods will decrease your levels of a hormone in the body called Leptin. Low levels of Leptin in the body have been shown to increase metabolism and increase the body’s ability to burn fat. The American heart association recommends light to moderate exercise in the form of brisk walks for 30 minutes, 4 times a week to assist you in your weight loss goals. Even though dealing with your weight control issues may seem quite challenging, with a little bit of effort, you can implement these lifestyle changes that help you to maintain a healthy body weight and improve your vision health at the same time.
