Traditionally, many children grow up thinking of conditioning activities as a punishment for poor behavior. Late for gym class? 25 push-ups. Talking too much during volleyball practice? 10 laps around the gym.

However, conditioning is an essential method of building muscle strength, flexibility, and overall athlete readiness for an active lifestyle, and coaches and parents should work to remove the negative connotations it can carry.

To help your players understand the importance of conditioning and how it fits into a healthy sports preparation program, include it regularly as part of your practices. If physical fitness is presented as a normal, everyday part of an athlete’s activities at sports practice, there will be no resentment toward it or avoidance of it.

Here are some tips on how to incorporate physical fitness testing as part of your regular practices:

· Inform parents and players at the beginning of the season about your conditioning plan

· Include conditioning in practices regularly and at the same point in practice, such as just after the warm-up

· Measure athlete progress during conditioning by testing their abilities at the beginning of the season, in the middle, and near the end

· Give awards or recognition for athletes making improvements because of conditioning

· Explain the impact that conditioning has on players abilities to perform certain skills and improve their performance

All athletes should come to respect and understand conditioning and its impact on sports performance. If they begin to look at it as a tool to build strength, endurance, and agility on the field, they will come to the exercises with more dedication and enthusiasm.

Physical fitness is comprised of many different components. The following factors affect an athlete’s overall fitness level and ability to play a sport:

· Lung capacity and ability to process adequate oxygen while exercising

· Body mass index, or percentage of body fat

· Muscle flexibility

· Muscle endurance

· Response time

· Proper diet and nutrient intake

A coach’s physical conditioning plan should take into account the basic benchmarks for physical fitness for certain levels and ages. If a coach has unreasonable expectations for their players endurance levels, they will be disappointed with team’s performance at conditioning drills as well as during the actual competition.

However, when coaches understand that all factors of physical fitness develop with time, they are more able to create a plan that takes into account the age and sport of their players to develop the most appropriate plan possible for the skills those players need to develop.

Creating a physical fitness program is also a great way to catch any limiting factors for athletes, such as dangerously high BMI, or body mass index. This factor, which determines the percentage of fat in the body in relation to muscle, is an indicator of other issues that may require a doctor’s care. Another factor, lung capacity can also be determined simply through a physical fitness program.

Though it may seem that some players do not have the endurance that others do, the problem may actually be related to lung capacity and that player’s ability to process oxygen. Exercise-induced asthma, a common condition brought on by rigorous sports participation, affects many athletes but goes unnoticed or misdiagnosed. A simple physical fitness program may bring this condition to light, because if a player is conditioning at the same level as their peers in exercises such as push-ups and sit-ups, they should have a similar level of endurance. If not, something else, such as asthma, may be to blame.

You can also walk short-distance places instead of driving or taking a cab to get there. Remember that exercising not only makes us physically fit but it also contributes to the positive mental health of an individual which in turn makes us holistically healthy.

Five to ten minutes break every two hours or so wouldn’t hurt for you to call your significant other and say “How are you doing?” and “I love you” in order to maintain a harmonious relationship with each other. You can also surprise your partner every now and then even if there is no occasion at all.

Living healthy is a continuous process. Focus, determination and self-control plays an important part in achieving holistic health. Every action has its own consequence so be smart in every decision making. You are the boss of your own body. Your good health and success all depends on you. There is no better day to start living a healthy life than today.

The Difference Between Owing And Owning Is Fundamental To Your Health

As the world goes into a financial meltdown, I am not surprised.

What does surprise me is that other people are surprised…

Why would this financial meltdown surprise anyone?

Have you seen how much stuff people have that they do not OWN but they OWE on??!!

In basic terms, if you have not bought something outright, you do not OWN it… But you sure as hell OWE on it.

Whether that be the house you pay a mortgage on, the car you have financed, or the clothes on your back that you paid for with a credit card you have not fully paid off.

If you have not paid for something free and clear, then you do not OWN it… it OWNS you… and you OWE for it.

I know that governments, banks, car dealerships, department stores, computer makers and credit card companies have all sold you a convenient story, but kidding yourself that you OWN something when you have not paid for it in full is a recipe for disaster.

Look around you and see –

Houses are in foreclosure – why? Because they were OWNed by people who had not and could not pay for them?

Debt is mounting – why? Because credit cards offer a false sense of superiority that leads to unnecessary purchases. Yes, I wrote superiority – because credit cards allow you to live beyond your means…

Possessions are excessively available, and all the while they are bought by people who cannot afford them and do not deserve them.

Most of the problems people face are brought about by dishonesty – and most of the dishonesty is with the person buying.

If you cannot easily afford it, then do not buy it.

Take the complication out of your life and start to appreciate what you have instead of pretending to be able to afford what you do not need.

Trying to screw over the system will only screw you up in the end – it really is not complicated unless you refuse to be honest.

I am fully aware that sometimes we need to borrow money to make a purchase that will ultimately be an investment, and that is all well and good as long as the payments are affordable and the investment is logical – if you buy a house and you borrow the money, be sure to factor in the taxes, yearly bills and fees, improvement costs and furniture needs – if you buy a house and cannot afford it in the longterm you will not only lose the house, you will lose your pride, your health and your peace of mind.

And remember, you do not OWN that house until you have paid it off – so, for 35 years you OWE on the house.

If your mortgage payment does not pay down the principal, then your mortgage payment is a trick that is wasting money.

If you cannot sleep at night because you are worried about your mortgage payment, then your house is not a good investment.

If you are not easily affording the possessions you buy, then the momentary thrill is only going to come back and bite you in the ass.

Be aware of what you earn and then make sure to spend less – save… and then spend – the loss of anxiety is worth all the money in the world.

Would it not be better to save up for what we want before we buy it?

If we saved our money, then we would have a twofold benefit – we would value what we bought and we would not be in debt.

Why is debt so bad?

Because debt leads to anxiety which leads to illness which leads to hospital bills and more debt which leads to more anxiety…

Before you buy that thing you do not need, try saving up for it first and then seeing if you still want it once you have the money to really OWN it.

Gluten Free Diet – Are You Vitamin Deficient?

You should also be watching your cholesterol levels too. In your life before having go gluten free, your cholesterol levels may have been very low. This is more than likely due to the fact your body was not absorbing any of the cholesterol you were eating. So now your tummy is getting better because you are eating the foods which are right for you, you may find that cholesterol is now being absorbed, so just keep an eye on it.

I take vitamins B-6 and B-12 but I do try to include the food groups which these vitamins are found such as spinach, brown rice, avocado, potatoes, chicken and salmon. Of course, whole grains and wheat contain these vitamins, but hey ho, I can not eat these but there are plenty of other foods I can eat which contain them.

These unfortunately on their own do not provide all the nutrition I need, mainly due to cooking processes, even though I do try to steam anything that can be steamed! So I have to take supplements too.

Agoraphobia Is Not the Opposite of Claustrophobia

Agoraphobia isn’t the opposite of claustrophobia – but a lot of people think it is. In fact I used to think exactly that. I used to think exactly that even when I was suffering from agoraphobia. I was even offered the opportunity to join an agoraphobics group, but I said no because I wasn’t afraid of open spaces. I quite liked open spaces as long as no one else was anywhere near me. In fact if there was no other human being in sight, then that was OK as far as I was concerned. But that was all a very long time ago.

The translation of agoraphobia is ‘fear of the market place’, not, as many people think, fear of open spaces. The essence of the market place is people and human interaction. This is what is fearful. Places that agoraphobes typically avoid, or have problems with, are supermarkets, theatres, cinemas, crowds, parties. Places where a rapid exit might be difficult.

The fear is usually of showing oneself up in some way in the eyes of others. Typically agoraphobes worry about things like: vomiting (usually as a result of severe anxiety); fainting; having a panic attack; or suffering from a genuine health emergency like a heart attack. The concern is usually one of embarrassment – perhaps fainting and finding oneself on a supermarket floor gazing up into a circle of concerned faces who will insist on making a fuss and calling an ambulance.

Many agoraphobes manage to get by with a trusted helper who accompanies them when they need to go shopping or out socialising. This person is there to rescue them and take them home should anything bad, like a panic attack occur. But when that helper is not available life is very restricted.

If medical help is obtained the most likely result is medication with tranquillisers and anti-depressants. Neither of which actually solve the problem, they just enable a minimum level of functionality. The problem remains, like a monster in the wardrobe, waiting to show its scary face as soon as you turn off the lights,  or look the other way. So you are trapped. The medication keeps the monster locked in the wardrobe, but doesn’t get rid of it. Stop the medication and the monster is free once more.

Life as an agoraphobe is no fun at all.

So if you are agoraphobic and reading this I want to reassure you about a few things:

  • This is not a disease, but you can ‘heal’ it.
  • There is nothing physically wrong with you.
  • Your brain is as normal as anyone else’s.
  • The cause is the way you think.
  • The cure is changing the way you think.

Changing the way you think is not easy, but it is a lot easier than living the isolated, fearful, life of an agoraphobe.

When you think about the totality of the change you need to make, it seems an insurmountable task.

When you think about the single next step you need to take – it becomes not only possible, but relatively easy.

The first steps are the most difficult. Every step after those first few become easier. They become easier because you have the memory of success and knowledge that what you are doing is already making a positive difference to your life.

Facts About Scooby Doo

In the mid 60's parent groups started protesting about the Saturday cartoon – shows being too violent and the need of a child friendly program was interested.
