New "Wave" in Whole Food Supplements – Have You Eaten Your Sea Vegetables Today?


You've probably noticed the huge movement in the nutrition and supplementation fields towards sea vegetation. It's nothing new of course. People have been eating seaweed and other sea vegetables for eons.

But if you dig around, you'll find that a push to eat your sea veggies is certainly on the rise, and your choices for different sea vegetation supplements are also increasing.

Personally, I've been taking sea vegetation supplements for the past 2 years and enjoy them very much. I've used 2 different kinds in particular and thought I share my thoughts with you on both in this brief review of sea vegetable supplements:

1) Sea Veg (TM)
This is a great product, developed by Scott Kennedy. I've listened to Scott discuss this product itself and he certainly is passionate about it! He believes that his children, who were given his product while in utero and every day thereafter, have never been ill! While I enjoyed the product myself, I never had much luck getting my 3 children to use it. The recommended dose is 3 capsules daily. However, I have heard Scott recommend a much higher dose (off the record) which means you go through the product much more quickly than anticipated. A bottle does not really last a full month if you take it the way Scott encourages, making it a more expensive product to take.

My only other comment would be about the company that Promotes this product for Scott. His product is promoted by ITV (TM). I've noticed that this company has not always been shipped with shipments and there were frequent billing mistakes; two headaches that I can do without.

2) SeaAloe (TM)
Most currently my sea vegetation comes in liquid form from a company called SeaAloe (TM). Of course, after my sea veg (TM) experience, I was facilitated to receive my order in just a few short days and with no billing errors. In fact, the company is very attentive and the customer service is excellent!

In my opinion, the best feature about this brand of sea vegetables is the fact that my children can easily use the product and they love it. It tastes great and they are eager to drink their ounce of sea vegetable supplements every day! This product also offers other terrific ingredients with valuable health benefits such as pau d 'arco, cranberry and black cherry. Of course, aloe vera is also in the product and is known for its healing and soothing qualities.

I'm very pleased to have found a liquid form of sea vegetables to supplement my family's diet. I know we're getting a great whole-food product that is very bio available in a very easy to consume liquid. I would highly recommend this product to anyone who understands the incredible value of sea vegetation and wants to supplement their diet with an easy-to-use, family-friendly product from a top-notch company.

There are literally thousands of pills you could be popping at any one time. Forget them and get these down you first, these are up there with the best of them and you'll feel the benefits in no time at all.

Medical Transcription


This is a process whereby dictation from physicians and other healthcare providers is transcribed and formatted into a medical document. The dictation occurs after a patient has seen a physician and then he dictates the results of that visit. A medical transcriptionist (MT) listens to the dictation and transcribes into a word processor (such as WordPerfect or Word), or in some cases using a typewriter (very few, if any, still use typewriters now). Types of reports include history and physicals, consultations, clinic notes, psychiatric evaluations, discharge summaries, x-ray reports, laboratory/pathology reports, and emergency department records. This document then becomes part of a patient’s medical record.

A medical transcriptionist can receive dictation several difference ways. Sometimes tapes are used (micro, mini or regular sized) and can be played back on a transcriber machine with a foot pedal (which rewinds or forwards the dictation). Some physicians use a call-in digital system to do their dictation and then a transcriptionist uses a special phone (C-phone or similar) to call in and retrieve the dictation. Another method of receiving dictation is with use of voice files using a digital recorder and then the transcriptionist receives the voice files to transcribe.

A medical transcriptionist has to have excellent medical terminology skills, computer and word processing skills, excellent listening skills, and must have a good grasp of the English language as well as excellent grammar skills. Training includes medical terminology, diseases processes, systems review, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, legal issues/confidentiality guidelines, etc.

Medical transcriptionists can work in hospitals, medical clinics, physician offices, transcription services or at home. Most transcriptionists require anywhere from 2 to 5 years of MT experience working in a hospital setting/clinical setting before they can work at home. Starting off working from home can be done but it is very difficult and most hospitals/services prefer 2 to 5 years of MT experience.

What equipment is needed?:

Medical transcriptionists need a computer to transcribe, to include a word processing program (usually WordPerfect or Word, although some companies have designed their own word processing program), headphones, wav player program, transcriber or special phone for call-in dictation, and resource books including medical dictionary, drug index, lab word book and other specialty books (i.e. pathology, cardiology, medical/surgical equipment, etc.). Also with use of a word processing program, a medical spell checker is a necessity. Some transcriptionist use short cut programs (to create abbreviations for longer words), which may include Instant Text, Speedtype, Shortcut or others.

How to Become a Medical Transcriptionist:

A transcriptionist can be trained on the job but it requires a lot of training, including medical terminology, computer skills, word processing skills, etc. Most transcriptionists are trained through smaller local colleges or on-line MT courses. Learning to become a medical transcriptionist takes a lot of time and is not something that can be learned over time. In fact, it is an ongoing learning experience as new drugs are always coming out, equipment changes, etc.

Transcription Pay:

Transcriptionists can be paid different ways, by the line, by the page, by the hour, or salary. Most independent transcriptionists working at home are paid by the line or page. Most MTs working in the hospital are paid by the hour. Salaries can fluctuate depending on many variables. Independent transcriptionists sometimes make more because they are paid by the line and thus with increased speed, they produce more lines, thus earning more. However, independent transcriptionists have to pay all of their taxes. Transcriptionists can also be a statutory employee, which is basically an independent contractor except that the company pays a portion of the taxes.

Transcriptions do not start out making a lot of money as some advertisements suggest, especially if you are paid by the line. It takes time to learn terminology, get used to different dictators, and lots of time is spent researching. Taking the National Debate Local – Health Insurance in Columbus, Ohio


Dominating the news, lately: the Republicans vs. the Democrats, determining the fate of the health care system of our country, and debating the President’s signature issue of universal health care for all Americans.

Ohio voters have a strong-spoken advocate, Republican John Boehner, who is arguing the Republican position that the Democrats’ suggested reforms will be too expensive, not economically sustainable, and will equate to a massive government-controlled bureaucracy.

But how does this affect workers at a local level?

In Columbus, Ohio, some of those who are most affected are middle-aged men. Studies and research show that these men are facing levels of unemployment that they haven’t seen before; these men, aged 50-60, are being laid off at a time when they are often major breadwinners for their families, who depend on their employer-sponsored benefits.

Rates of unemployment in Columbus are similar to the national average, but with employers such as GM closing plants (in Ontario) statistics can “hit home” as educated and skilled workers are laid off. Even more difficult, these men are fighting younger workers, often willing to accept lower salaries, in the job market. The consequences can be very difficult for both these men, searching but not finding jobs, and for their families.

So are there any solutions for affordable health insurance in Ohio? There are; some of these families are benefiting from the government’s program that extends unemployed workers’ health benefits an additional nine months, through COBRA. In fact, this extension of benefits is one of the issues that is currently up for debate in Congress; it’s one Ohio voters should pay attention to, and anyone who has lost their job since September of 2008 should be sure to inquire of their employer about the benefits still available through the company.

Columbus is actually the home to the Ohio Department of Insurance, a government agency that provides regulation and education to consumers regarding their options for insurance; they give the approval for every Ohio health insurance plan and regulate Ohio state health insurance quotes. The good news: the list of insurers, for Ohio citizens, available for download through this department’s website, includes over 2000 companies. But consumers looking for low cost Ohio health insurance (especially if they are between jobs) need not do all the comparison shopping for these companies on their own.

Health Savings Accounts – An American Innovation in Health Insurance


INTRODUCTON – The term “health insurance” is commonly used in the United States to describe any program that helps pay for medical expenses, whether through privately purchased insurance, social insurance or a non-insurance social welfare program funded by the government. Synonyms for this usage include “health coverage,” “health care coverage” and “health benefits” and “medical insurance.” In a more technical sense, the term is used to describe any form of insurance that provides protection against injury or illness.

In America, the health insurance industry has changed rapidly during the last few decades. In the 1970’s most people who had health insurance had indemnity insurance. Indemnity insurance is often called fee-forservice. It is the traditional health insurance in which the medical provider (usually a doctor or hospital) is paid a fee for each service provided to the patient covered under the policy. An important category associated with the indemnity plans is that of consumer driven health care (CDHC). Consumer-directed health plans allow individuals and families to have greater control over their health care, including when and how they access care, what types of care they receive and how much they spend on health care services.

These plans are however associated with higher deductibles that the insured have to pay from their pocket before they can claim insurance money. Consumer driven health care plans include Health Reimbursement Plans (HRAs), Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs), high deductible health plans (HDHps), Archer Medical Savings Accounts (MSAs) and Health Savings Accounts (HSAs). Of these, the Health Savings Accounts are the most recent and they have witnessed rapid growth during the last decade.


A Health Savings Account (HSA) is a tax-advantaged medical savings account available to taxpayers in the United States. The funds contributed to the account are not subject to federal income tax at the time of deposit. These may be used to pay for qualified medical expenses at any time without federal tax liability.

Another feature is that the funds contributed to Health Savings Account roll over and accumulate year over year if not spent. These can be withdrawn by the employees at the time of retirement without any tax liabilities. Withdrawals for qualified expenses and interest earned are also not subject to federal income taxes. According to the U.S. Treasury Office, ‘A Health Savings Account is an alternative to traditional health insurance; it is a savings product that offers a different way for consumers to pay for their health care.

HSA’s enable you to pay for current health expenses and save for future qualified medical and retiree health expenses on a tax-free basis.’ Thus the Health Savings Account is an effort to increase the efficiency of the American health care system and to encourage people to be more responsible and prudent towards their health care needs. It falls in the category of consumer driven health care plans.

Origin of Health Savings Account

The Health Savings Account was established under the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act passed by the U.S. Congress in June 2003, by the Senate in July 2003 and signed by President Bush on December 8, 2003.

Eligibility –

The following individuals are eligible to open a Health Savings Account –

– Those who are covered by a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP).

– Those not covered by other health insurance plans.

– Those not enrolled in Medicare4.

Also there are no income limits on who may contribute to an HAS and there is no requirement of having earned income to contribute to an HAS. However HAS’s can’t be set up by those who are dependent on someone else’s tax return. Also HSA’s cannot be set up independently by children.

What is a High Deductible Health plan (HDHP)?

Enrollment in a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) is a necessary qualification for anyone wishing to open a Health Savings Account. In fact the HDHPs got a boost by the Medicare Modernization Act which introduced the HSAs. A High Deductible Health Plan is a health insurance plan which has a certain deductible threshold. This limit must be crossed before the insured person can claim insurance money. It does not cover first dollar medical expenses. So an individual has to himself pay the initial expenses that are called out-of-pocket costs.

In a number of HDHPs costs of immunization and preventive health care are excluded from the deductible which means that the individual is reimbursed for them. HDHPs can be taken both by individuals (self employed as well as employed) and employers. In 2008, HDHPs are being offered by insurance companies in America with deductibles ranging from a minimum of $1,100 for Self and $2,200 for Self and Family coverage. The maximum amount out-of-pocket limits for HDHPs is $5,600 for self and $11,200 for Self and Family enrollment. …
