They may serve a purpose but their overuse does not.

Another problem is that many times people go the health food store and look at the prices of substances. This is a big mistake. Cheaper is not likely to be better. Like anything quality usually comes with a price. Health is not something a price should be put on.

Another mistake is that people look at quantities. For instance this substance has 500 mg of Vitamin C while this one only has 250 mg; therefore the fist one must be better. One very valuable thing you can do is read labels. Remember what I said about quality, binders and fillers, well if a supplement is full of these items or is a lower quality, you are not going to absorb the extra amount anyway. So ignore the amount, at least somewhat, and look at the labels. If in doubt ask store staff. If they do not appear knowledgeable then go elsewhere. As a general rule, go with the supplement that has the least amount of fillers. You will recognize these substitutes when you read labels because you will see plenty of extra ingredients. Another possible hint: In my opinion, many of the more reputable brands typically package their supplies in recyclable packaging, although this is not always the case.

Choose good brands. This is something that takes time but you will get a sense after a while. Unfortunately the better quality substances tend to be more expensive; however, you will have to use less of them to get the same effect, and you will probably benefit better from doing so.

So in closing, please be sure to read labels, watch out for fillers and binders, and go for the better brands. Your body will like you for it.

Healthy, Healing Comfort Food You Will Love

What food makes you feel satisfied and satisfied? Is it cookies? Ice Cream? Mashed potatoes? Or maybe just Macaroni and Cheese. How about all of the above? Yum!

You can have most comfort food that tastes just as rich and delicious, and is just as satisfying as the traditional version or even more, but in its healthiest, even healing, form. How is that possible? Simply substitute ingredients that will create a similar look and texture, but with even more flavor. For example, if your favorite comfort food recipe starts with butter, use ghee, or clarified butter. You can find it in the international section of nearly every health food store, or on-line. If you're very industrious, you can make your own.

In place of sugar, use whole leave stevia extract (health store or on-line), which can actually help the pancreas, from what I hear. How to get it to taste more like sugar? Add fruit to the recipe. For example, baking a cake with unsweetened apple sauce plus stevia.

Need to replace an unhealthy thickener? Use the same amount of Kuzu Root or Arrowroot powder. Kuzu root is said to be good for the stomach.

Use mineral-rich salts such as pink Himalayan Sea Salt or red Hawaiian salt. Yummy flavors!

Replace cow's milk products with goat milk, or for vegans, use coconut milk for sweet recipes, and cashew cream for savory (soak cashews in water till they absorb it all and blend in blender).

Pasta-lovers try this for a change -julienned zucchini, which actually has a bit of flavor, as opposed to pasta, which tastes completely bland by itself. See recipe below for ideas.

Of course you should always check with your doctor if you have any health concerns at all.

Mac and Cheese for All!

Ingredients Per Person :

1 cup combination green and / or yellow zucchini, cut into "macaroni" size slices (julienne-style- thick)

Te teaspoon Salt

Te teaspoon Kuzu or Arrowroot powder (health store)

1 Tablespoon purified Water

1 teaspoon Ghee (clarified butter- health store), OR Butter, OR for vegans, High Heat Oil of choice

C cup grated Cheddar or other Cheese of choice. I recommend goat cheddar for healing ingredient. For Vegans / dairy-free , use Almond Cheese or other of choice.

Directions:

1. Sautee 'Zucchini in Ghee or Oil, adding Salt. (Medium heat)

2. Melt Kuzu in Water while Zucchini cooks.

3. When Zucchini cooked to your liking, add grated Cheese, stirring while it melts.

4. Add Kuzu / Water mix and stir quickly until it thickens.

Variations: Add tomato bits, fresh or sundried, sausage of choice, herbs of choice such as dill or rosemary, other meats or cheeses. Vegans, add sprouted or toasted nuts or seeds.

How to Participate in a Mesothelioma Clinical Trial

Mesothelioma cancer is one of the rarest and deadliest forms of cancer that can be diagnosed to a patient. The life expectancy is often very short and there are often no successful treatment options, which is why it is imperative for a mesothelioma patient to participate in a clinical trial.

The National Cancer Institute (NCI) has made available an array of clinical trials for mesothelioma cancer patients to become involved in and explains that "clinical trials are research studies that test how well new medical approaches work in people." Additionally, the NCI claims that those who partake in "cancer clinical trials have an opportunity to contribute to knowledge of, and progress against, cancer," which may save the lives of others someday. According to the NCI there are several varieties of clinical trials available to participate in, including the following:

* Prevention trials, which test new medicines, vitamins, supplements or approaches to decreasing the risk of certain cancers.

* Screening trials are conducted in an attempt to detect types of cancers early on, which is extremely important for mesothelioma case studies.

* Diagnostic trials "study tests or procedures that can be used to identify cancer more accurately," according to the NCI.

* Individuals who have cancer can become involved in treatment trials that are developed in a way so participants can better understand and evaluate the effectiveness of a new treatment.

* Quality-of-life or supportive care trials study the side effects commonly associated with cancers and cancer treatments.

Individuals who would like to take part in a clinical trial because of their mesothelioma cancer diagnosis will find that clinical trials are professional and safe, according to the NCI, as they are commonly sponsored by government agencies including:
* National Cancer Institute

What Is Mesothelioma?

Mesothelioma has been linked to the inhalation of asbestos fibers or dust, which has often been linked to employees working in an array of construction-related fields. The University of Toronto Environment Health and Safety department described the following asbestos uses:
* sprayed fireproofing within buildings on "structural steelwork"
* thermal insulation was used for boilers, pipes, hot water tanks and heaters
* ceilings and walls may have had asbestos applied to them as "acoustic or decorative finishes"
* roofing materials
* acoustic paneling, ceiling tiles
* electric insulation
* laboratory bench tops
* water or sewage piping systems
* asbestos-cement products
* asbestos paper, textile or felt products
* door gaskets on furnaces or stoves
* pipeline wrap
* asbestos coatings, sealants, adhesives
* vinyl floor tiles, vinyl sheet flooring
* table pads
* heat protective mats
* fire blankets and protective clothing

Because asbestos was found to be a highly fire-retardant product as well as inexpensive when mass produced, its uses were wide spread for years until researchers made the link between asbestos and mesothelioma. Unfortunately, it took years for the link to be discovered as mesothelioma cancer often remains dormant for 10 to 30 years upon initial exposure.

There Are Two Kinds of People in the US – Those Who View Health As Static and Those Who Don’t

Introduction: We’re Not #1

I believe Americans need a new way of thinking about health. Look where our current perspectives on the subject have gotten us – we are last among the world’s 17 most industrialized nations in all the key indicators of health. It’s hard to believe but true: we’re last in life expectancy; we have the highest rates of obesity, infant mortality, low birth weights, heart disease, diabetes, chronic lung disease, homicide rates, teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases.

The lead author of the Institute of Medicine, NIH sponsored study that revealed this situation remarked that “Americans get sicker, die sooner and sustain more injuries than people in all other high-income countries.” (That’s a quote from the report.) Then he added this coup de grace: “We were stunned by the propensity of findings all on the negative side – the scope of the disadvantage covers all ages, from babies to seniors, both sexes, all classes of society. If we fail to act, life spans will continue to shorten and children will face greater rates of illness than those in other nations.”

Two Ways to Think of Health

I believe Americans are overly passive about their health. Good health can only be attained and maintained by conscious deeds. These deeds require planning and disciple. Examples include exercising regularly and vigorously, dining in ways that nourish the body without causing problems and otherwise behaving in positive, active ways.

The level of health you will enjoy is clearly affected by your lifestyle choices. Your health status depends to a great extent on whether you invest in your well being or not. If you make little or no such investments, your health will depend on chance, genetics, the aging process and the timeliness of the quality of medical care you receive.

If, on the other hand, you do invest, if you seek, protect and defend an advanced state of well being, the nature of the health status you will have will be dramatically different – and better.

Therefore, we need to distinguish these two kinds of health situations – one passive, one active.

The Institute of Health report that places America last reflects that segment of America that is passive. If the quite small segment of the American population that practices active health were separated, if their health data were compiled and compared, I’m sure we would be #1.

For these and related reasons, I propose we view health in two different ways – by making a distinction between static health – which is how most view and approach their health, and earned health. The latter is what you get when you invest wisely in your own well being.

It’s a way of life I call REAL wellness.

Health As Currently Perceived

The WHO definition of health is unrealistic (nobody, not even the most devout wellite, enjoys “complete physical, mental and social well-being,” at least not every day). Most think of health in far less exalted ways. Most think they are well if they are not sick. This is pathetic. It equates with not needing immediate medical attention. For the vast majority, this is a “good enough” view of health. Thinking that way is a self-fulfilling prophesy. It means that not healthy is the best you can hope for. This is the static definition of health and it must be reformed and at least accompanied by another, comparison perspective for those Americans willing to do their part. That would be earned health.

I think we need ideas about health that remind people of a key fact, namely, that a passive situation is not as effective, desirable, protective or rewarding as a dynamic earned state of health. We should all be aware that static health, the default setting you get for just existing and doing nothing special to enhance health, can and must be reinforced and boosted.

Employing a term like earned health might remind people that health can be much more than non-illness. The term earned health can signal the availability of a richer level of well being. It can remind everyone that health at its best is more than a static condition. Health is a dynamic state; it gets better with effort, worse if ignored.

Earned health represents a higher health standard. Earned health is more ambitious and more consistent with a REAL wellness mindset and lifestyle than the current norm of health as non-sickness.

This continuum is another way of expressing Dr. John Travis’ original, simple line drawing model of health along a continuum, with “premature death” on the far left side of his continuum) and an ever-changing dynamic of “high level wellness” at the other, right side extreme.
