Prepare for the Real Costs of Long-Term Health Care

I loved living in Africa. I still love the wild spaces and the live-and-let-live culture. I’ll retire there for sure… my 150-year-old seaside cottage is ready and waiting.

But in my younger days, Africa came with a cost: I was far from loved ones. A round-trip ticket to the U.S. cost an entire month’s salary.

But sometimes I thought it worth it… such as when my dear grandma entered long-term care late in her life.

She was a lovely person; kind and gentle, but with a keen eye for saving a penny.

Luckily for her, when she needed round-the-clock care, a combination of sound financial planning and good timing – health care was a lot cheaper then, and Medicare had good benefits – meant she was well-provided for.

Those days, however, are over… are you ready?

Long-Term Care: It’ll Cost You

Consider these numbers:

  • The median cost of a private room in a nursing home is $250 to $350 per day, or about $91,000 to $128,000 per year.
  • The median cost of assisted living is $3,628 per month – more than $43,500 per year.
  • A home health aide for eight hours per day costs more than $40,000 per year.

Most people prepare for long-term care by calculating how much of the cost they could handle with retirement income and savings, then looking to insurance to fill any gap.

But long-term care insurance premiums have skyrocketed in recent years.

People are living longer with chronic diseases such as Alzheimer’s, like Grandma. And insurers didn’t anticipate an extended period of low interest rates, which have hit their investment returns on which they depend to pay future claims.

Consequently, premiums on long-term care insurance have soared.

In 2000, you could pay $880 per year for a $70 daily benefit, a 50-day waiting period, 5% compound inflation protection and lifetime benefits. Today a similar policy – but with a five-year maximum benefit period – would cost $2,944 per year.

Long-term care policyholders face a tough decision: Pay the increased premiums – cutting into your retirement savings! – reduce coverage, or let the policy lapse and lose the benefits.

Get Smart Instead

Fortunately, there are strategies you can adopt to cope with these rising insurance costs. Here are some of the easiest to implement:

  • Buy a combined long-term care and life policy. These pay out whether you need care or not, and the premiums are fixed. A 55-year-old man who pays $10,000 per year for 10 years could get a monthly long-term care benefit of $5,500 for up to six years, growing at 3% compounded per year. If he didn’t need long-term care, his heirs would receive a $130,000 death benefit, or he could cash in the policy and get back 80% of his premiums.
  • Add a chronic-care rider to a permanent life insurance policy when you buy it, which lets you use up to 2% of the death benefit per month for long-term care, with a $360 daily maximum. This rider tends to add 10% to 12% to the premiums

The average long-term care claim is just less than three years. That gives you scope to adjust your policy and save on premiums:

Cut inflation protection. Cutting back from 5% to 3% can reduce your premiums significantly. The older you are now, the better this option will be. Someone in his or her 70s, for example, may have already built up a big enough daily benefit at 5% inflation protection that reducing the rate to 3% or lower will be enough in the future.

Reduce the coverage term. If you have lifetime benefits, you can usually reduce coverage to three to five years, which covers the average claim period. But be aware that the reduced term may fall short of what you need if you develop a chronic disease.

Look for a “paid up” option. Regulators in some states require insurers to offer this option to policyholders who drop their insurance. Instead of losing all the coverage you paid for, you’d get a benefit based on the premiums paid.

Of course, there are other ways to reduce your health care costs, now and in the future, such as offshore health care and health savings accounts.

Don’t Set It and Forget It

Most people react quickly to changes in the investment environment. They seize opportunities and adjust their portfolios accordingly as asset values change.

Unfortunately, the same isn’t always true for insurance. There’s a tendency to buy it and let it ride. Don’t make that mistake.

If you don’t have long-term care insurance, consider getting it.

If you do, review your coverage and see whether it makes more sense to reduce it and divert some of the savings into your retirement kitty, where it might earn better returns.

After all, the future of U.S. health …

25 Plus Ways to Grow Your Business As a Beachbody Coach

To achieve the most success as a Beachbody coach I think the most important thing is to be consistent and take action. Try to set long term goals for yourself for 1 year, 2 years and even 5 years down the line. It takes time to build your business and to have massive success in network marketing you will have to build relationships, take consistent action and become a leader. Here is a list of ideas and ways myself and other coaches have used to build their business. So if you are just starting as a Beachbody coach or are looking into it here are some great ways to get your business going.

1. Make videos about anything related to Beachbody and put them on the popular video sites. Talk about your journey to fitness, your struggles, what programs you like or other things related to Beachbody. Doing videos helps you reach a large audience and people get to see you and hear your story. It is a good way to make a deeper connection with your customers.

2. Start a Fit Club. Getting out there into your community and doing the Beachbody workouts can really help to grow your business. It is a great way for people to try out the workouts. Many of the coaches who do fit clubs find their business is growing quickly.

3. Do a Home Party. Make a fun event out of Beachbody and the workouts. Have people over and demonstrate a workout and sample some of the nutritional products.

4. Lead a challenge with a group of friends or family. Challenge friends and family to a fitness contest or a weight loss challenge. You could use a Beachbody workout or product as part of the challenge. You could also make a Beachbody product an incentive for the winner.

5. Lead a health challenge at a large company. You will find many large companies have health and wellness incentives for their employees if they are working out a certain number of days per week. You could organize a large challenge at a company or work with their HR to make Beachbody workouts a part of their health and wellness incentive package.

Beachbody is a great opportunity for personal trainers to not only supplement their income but help Beachbody customers with their knowledge. Working with Beachbody as coaches they will have the opportunity to offer more to their existing clients and make more money so it really is a win-win situation for them.

7. Present the Beachbody opportunity to Real Estate Agents. Beachbody is a business that works well for Real Estate agents because they already know the importance of networking and how to market a business. Beachbody is a great way for Real Estate Agents to supplement or replace their lost income.

8. Present the Beachbody opportunity to Teachers. While some teachers enjoy their summers off there are some that look for jobs or opportunities in the summer. Summer is an ideal time for a teacher to get started with Beachbody and build their business and then continue part time during the school year.

The 5 Top Disadvantages Of Not Getting Enough Sleep

Many people choose to sacrifice their sleep in order to get more done each day. While using a few hours of your nap time to work or study more may seem like the best way of “going the extra mile”, sleep deprivation can have a wide range of negative effects. Unfortunately, the disadvantages of not getting enough sleep are beyond daytime drowsiness and can’t be fixed with a daily dose of caffeine. Lack of sleep can jeopardize your safety and that of others around you or lead to serious health consequences. The following is a list of some surprising negative effects of inadequate sleep.

1 – Faster Aging

Sleep deprivation can affect the way you look and accelerate the aging process. After just a few days of sleepless nights, many people start to develop wrinkles, lackluster skin and dark circles under the eyes. Much of this is caused by higher levels of cortisol (the stress hormone) in the body which are elevated when you don’t get enough rest. When in excess, cortisol breaks down collagen – a protein that keeps the skin smooth, elastic and looking young.

2 – Health Problems

A few nights of missed sleep can be fixed easily with more rest during subsequent days and is unlikely to have long lasting effects on your health. However, when you don’t sleep well for weeks, months, or even years, this will start to take a serious toll on your health and put you at a much higher risk of developing a range of health problems including depression, diabetes, heart disease and high blood pressure.

3 – Increased Risk of Causing Accidents

Lack of sleep causes drowsiness which can increase the risk of accidents when driving, operating machines and performing various other tasks. Drowsiness slows down your reaction times and this makes it much more difficult to respond when you need to. This is why fatigue is one of the leading causes of automobile accidents on the roads today.

4 – Poor Mental Performance

If you’re sleep deprived, many of your cognitive responses will not function at peak levels. Your attention span, reasoning, sense of judgment and problem solving skills will be impaired when the body is not well rested. Lack of sleep also affects the way your brain processes and stores information and you’ll tend to forget things more often. All of these factors make performing effectively and productively during the day very difficult.

5 – Weight Gain

It may be hard to believe that not sleeping enough can cause you to pack on some extra pounds. However, recent studies have found that shortened sleep time decreases the levels of leptin (a hormone that suppresses your appetite) in your body while also elevating levels of ghrelin (a hormone that induces hunger). A lack of sleep also reduces your human growth hormone (a hormone that stimulates muscle growth and fat burning) levels which limits the rate at which your body burns fat. The overall result is that if you don’t sleep enough, you’ll be more likely to overeat and your body will burn off these excess calories at a slower rate.

As you can see, skimping on sleep is a bad idea. While it may seem like it’s not a big deal, it can have serious consequences on your health and performance. So make sure you’re getting at least 6 hours of high quality sleep every single night to avoid the adverse effects discussed in this article.

Can You Still Grow Taller and in Good Health If Your Intolerant or Allergic to Lactose and Gluten?

Planned carefully, a vegetarian eating style can provide what is needed for growing taller and for good health. That takes commitment. But, once you understand it, being a smart vegetarian to grow taller takes no more effort than any other approach to smart eating. Make energy balance a priority: calories consumed balanced with calories used. Vegetarian eating isn’t necessarily lower in calories. on energy balance. Build meals around protein sources that are naturally nutrient-rich, such as beans and lentils. Avoid overloading on high-fat cheeses to replace meat and grow taller. Make meat or poultry dishes vegetarian: pasta primavera, veggie pizza, vegetable lasagna, tofu-vegetable stir-fry, vegetable lo mein, vegetable kabobs, and bean burritos or tacos. For vegans, consume reliable sources of vitamin B12 such as fortified breakfast cereal or soy beverage and vitamin D, especially if your exposure to sunlight is limited.

For good health while growing taller, follow the advice of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans and the grow taller 4 smarts program, meant for vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike. Refer to our knowledge for recommended food group amounts.Today’s supermarkets sell all the foods you need for a healthful, vegetarian diet to grow taller even vegetarian convenience foods. You don’t need to shop elsewhere, but specialty stores may carry less common items (such as textured soy protein, quinoa, kosher gelatin, and wheat gluten).

A food sensitivity, or adverse reaction to food, can’t be overlooked as a health issue and prevent us from growing taller. It can seriously affect and disrupt the quality of life and may even be life-threatening. The causes of discomfort are more numerous, and perhaps more complex, than you may think. Among the types of food sensitivities: A food sensitivity, or adverse reaction to food, can’t be overlooked as a health issue.

It can seriously affect and disrupt your growing taller process and the quality of your life and may even be life-threatening. The causes of discomfort are more numerous, and perhaps more complex, than you may think. Among the types of food sensitivities.

A food allergy rallies the body’s disease-fighting (immune) system to action, creating unpleasant, sometimes serious, symptoms. In other words, the immune system starts to work even though the person isn’t sick. That’s why symptoms appear.

Psychological reasons. Feelings of discomfort after eating can also be wrapped up with emotion. Even though there’s no physical reason you shouldn’t grow taller, just thinking about a certain food that may be associated with an unpleasant experience can make some people feel sick!

If a certain food seems to bother you, skip the temptation to self-diagnose. Instead, check with your physician. For example, a reaction to milk could be an intolerance rather than a food allergy; let your doctor diagnose your symptoms. This chapter can help you get familiar with possible causes. Be aware that an adverse reaction may be a foodborne illness; this illness can be nefast and disturbing. For a closer look at identifying and preventing foodborne illnesses, intolerances you should look up the e-book about the grow taller 4 smarts program.

With a food intolerance, physical reactions to a food to grow taller often result from faulty metabolism. The body can’t adequately digest a certain component of a particular food. Perhaps because a digestive enzyme is deficient. Substances that are part of a food’s natural chemistry such as theobromine in coffee or tea, or serotonin in bananas or tomatoes may cause bad reactions, too.

Do you like milk to grow taller but, think that milk doesn’t like you? Then you may be lactose-intolerant and not allergic to milk. The good news is: A serving of milk may be “friendlier” than you think!

A milk allergy is quite different. It’s an allergic reaction to the protein components, such as casein, in milk. People who have a milk allergy usually must avoid all milk products. People with lactose intolerance can eat dairy products in varying amounts; that’s because lactose intolerance is a matter of degree. If you suspect lactose intolerance, avoid self-diagnosis. Instead, see your doctor for a medical diagnosis; the symptoms might be caused by another condition. Lactose intolerance is diagnosed with several tests: a blood test, a hydrogen breath test, or a stool acidity test for infants and young children.

How many people trying to grow taller have low levels of lactase? Between thirty to fifty million Americans; however, a large proportion of them have few if any symptoms. And many people who think they’re lactose-intolerant really aren’t. Certain ethnic and racial populations are more widely affected than others. In the United States as many as 80 percent of African Americans and 75 percent of American Indians, 90 percent of Asian Americans and 60 percent of Hispanics are lactose-intolerant to some degree. The condition is least common among persons of northern European descent who tend …

Penis Health Could Be Impeded by This Soap

Few things are as important to a guy as his sexual health, and therefore most men want to do anything they can to protect themselves in this area. General expert attention to penis health is one of the primary factors in maintaining good sexual health, but sometimes there are factors that may not seem obvious. For example, it seems possible that the soap a man uses might have some impact on sexual and penis health, especially in terms of the libido.

Antibacterial soaps

That doesn’t mean that a guy needs to stop showering and washing just to protect his penis; that would have serious negative consequences! But it does mean a man might want to pay more attention to the kind of soap he uses.

Men are often advised to use a gentle soap on the penis, largely because soaps with harsh chemicals or fragrances often can irritate the sensitive penis skin. But recent research has raised the possibility that some antibacterial soaps should be avoided because of how they may affect penis health.

The culprit here is bacterial soap that contains an ingredient called triclosan (sometimes called triclocarban). Triclosan is a common antibacterial (also antifungal) agent found not only in some soaps but also in some detergents, deodorants, mouthwashes, toothpastes and other products.

But there have been questions raised about how effective triclosan really is; as a result, the FDA has started procedures to ban its use in over-the-counter products that promote it as an antibacterial ingredient. This ban will take place in September, 2017.

The ban was instituted because the FDA has found insufficient evidence that triclosan truly has an antibacterial effect. However, a recent news report found that animal studies suggest triclosan can have a negative impact on both hormone production and thyroid function.

If the same holds true for humans, triclosan could therefore lower testosterone levels in men, as well as impact muscle production. Both of these factors tend to depress libido in men.

While any causal relationship between triclosan and sexual health in humans is not conclusively proven, men may want to take steps to eliminate this ingredient from their lives. Some suggested steps include:

– Checking labels. Look on the labels of any soaps and body washes (bar soap or liquid) to see if they contain triclosan or triclocarban. In addition, look for the same on laundry detergents, toothpastes and mouthwashes.

– Switching products. If hygiene products do contain the ingredient, switch to a different brand that claims to be triclosan-free.

– Monitoring changes. After making these adjustments, it may be a good idea to see if a man notices any positive changes in his sexual and penis health. If he does, this increases the possibility that triclosan was having an inhibitory effect on him.

Triclosan has a relatively short lifespan so long term accumulation is not likely to be a problem.

Although antibacterial soap with triclosan might impact sexual health, so does not taking proper care of the penis in general. Regular application of a top drawer penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin) is one excellent way to keep an eye on penis health. Because penile blood flow is so important to maintaining sexual health, using a crème with L-arginine is key. L-arginine is an amino acid that aids the body in the process by which blood vessels are kept more open and receptive to increased blood flow. The crème should also contain vitamin C, which not only is a further aid to proper blood flow but which also promotes collagen development, which helps the skin keep the elasticity it needs for erections.

Alcoholism – Causes and Treatments

The term alcohol comes from the Arabic ‘al kuhl’, meaning fine powder of antimony or other distilled substance. Its over-use can lead to extreme impairment in physical, social and occupational functioning. Disorders associated with its chronic abuse include cirrhosis, fatty liver, alcoholic hepatitis and liver failure.

Malnutrition may become apparent as those afflicted forget to eat in their quest for more drink and since alcohol robs the body of important micronutrients, including vitamins B, C and E, nutritional status is impaired. B vitamins are particularly important for the nervous system, which is often adversely affected. On top of this, the amount of psychological, emotional and social problems resulting from this disturbing condition may lead to untold damage to the individual and those they share close relationships with. It has to be admitted that if alcohol is used sensibly, it is unlikely to become a problem. If controlled, it is a pleasurable social activity. If can promote a feeling of well being and help in the inter-action between friends and colleagues in an informal environment. It can be found to be useful over a drink, in making new acquaintances at a formal function, where you may be uptight or on a date, particularly if your personality is not an outgoing one.

There in lies a problem, because if your confidence is boosted with alcohol, you may take the view that a little more taken more often might have a better affect on your social life. The down side of this attitude is that if you succumb, you will find yourself in the stage known as “functional state”. At this point, you will be able to perform your work well and indeed it has been noted by Dr Martin Bland, Director of Alcohol Research Project at the University of Edinburgh, those drinkers are often focused on ensuring that their drinking does not impinge on their work.

The Medical Council on alcoholism defines alcohol dependence as the reliance on alcohol intake such as its withdrawal leads to physiological discomfort and/or physical disorders. In the stage of functional alcoholism, the individual does not yet suffer any withdrawal symptoms. They certainly would find it hard to go to a party and not drink as drink to them is their normal social lubrication and they do not drink during working out. They do, according to Dr Andrew McNeil co director of the Institute of Alcoholic studies – when on a drinking spree need to drink more than normal to feel drunk. This is called the tolerance affect – as you drink your body becomes used to it, as you need more to get drunk they achieve this by either drinking more than everyone else or by taking double measures. The interval between functional state and the stage of addiction can be recognised by the definite change in habit. Even personality, which is usually noticed by others, rather than the person concerned, particularly in the early stage of transition. Domestic arguments may become more serious and frequent. They may get into altercations, even a fight and not care about drinking and driving – the “I’m all right attitude”. He will gulp his drink down, he will begin to under-perform at work and may be reprimanded. The may turn up to work the worse of wear. If this change of behaviour pattern denotes, he is now entering a future phase which his bleak and in the extreme, that it alcoholic dependence.

We have become in the UK, only too aware of the insidious problem of alcohol abuse. The statistics are almost incredible. Over the past 20 years the admission of alcohol treatment departments in psychiatric hospitals has increased 25 fold. Approximately 1 in 5 male admissions to acute medical wards is directly or indirectly attributed to alcohol abuse. These statistics are serious enough but the effect on the medical staff and other patients on some wards has also been recognised. Physical abuse has reached such a peak that it is now being considered that police posts are to be established within hospitals. Alcoholic dependence or abuse carries with it serious complications. After a 10 year period of drinking, damage will have occurred to all bodily functions and these changes are seen earlier in women than in men.

Damage is caused by the effect of alcohol on nutrition and direct tissue toxicity. Cardio Vascular Toxic effects on the heart are cardiomathy, (heart enlargement and arrhythmia’s) which means the heartbeat becomes erratic in time and force. Neurological Directly due to toxicity – protaxia (in co-ordination of muscular movement), falls causing head injury and internal haemorrhage, epilepsy (ATS, dementia (loss of mental faculties). A specific syndrome karsakofs syndrome – has been identified. This occurs because of a Vitamin B deficiency (Thyomine) , the clinical features of which are multiple – …

Raw Hide Bones Versus Pork Hide Bones, Which Is Better?

You’re thinking to yourself, “I’m bringing home my new puppy”. If you want the best for him/her, you will learn what you can about raising a dog in a positive way.

Your dog is part of your pack. It is important that they are a part of your everyday family life. Don’t ever leave dogs alone in the back yard or anywhere for days on end. They will get bored and lonely, just like you would. That is when dogs bark and dig. It’s not the dog’s fault, it’s the owners fault when that happens. It is important to include them as family members. Dogs will be the most loyal companion you will ever know, especially when you take care of them in a loving way.

Pet parents love to give their dogs treats. It’s part of the joy of owning a dog. You get to bond with your pampered puppy many different ways. One of the most fun ways is giving your loved dog treats. It brings great pleasure not only to your dog, but to you as well.

Since you want your dog to live the longest, healthiest life possible, it is vital to be aware of how important nutrition is. Reading and understanding labels on pet food and products is critical to the well being of your pampered puppy.

Dog’s natural tendency is to chew. Pulling meat apart is their nature. It cleans their teeth and keeps their gums healthy. Picture wolves in the wild. They pull meat off of a carcass when they eat. That is why giving your pampered puppy things that they can tear apart with their teeth will save you frustration and a lot of money when they don’t ruin your shoes, or a couch leg by chewing them.

Puppies need to chew a lot. So keeping things available to keep them engaged will make you and your precious puppy happier.

People have asked themselves, “Raw Hide Bones Versus Pork Hide Bones, which is better?” There can be so much confusion over the healthier choice. Rawhide and Porkhide Bones are made from the same part of the animal, there is no difference there. The processing is much the same. Both are used for cleaning the teeth and healthier gums. So what is the big difference?

Rawhide Bones are known to choke dogs. That is every pet parent’s worse nightmare! Many people say to stay away from Rawhide Bones because they can be dangerous and cause choking. Rawhide is very stiff. If your dog swallows a piece of Rawhide, it can get lodged in their throat. This can lead to your dog gagging, vomiting, diarrhea and fever with signs of pain. In worse case scenarios, dogs have had to undergo painful and expensive surgery to remove the blockage.

Sometimes it is recommended to wash our hands after handling Rawhide Bones with soap and water to avoid contamination! I don’t want to feed any of my pets, products where I am told to wash my hands after handling… how safe can those products be for your loved pet to eat?

Porkhide Bones are known to be more fattening than Rawhide Bones. Pet parent’s who have an overweight dog need to be aware of the calorie content. If it is a known fact that your dog is allergic to pork, you would not want to feed Porkhide. Porkhide has been shown to be consistently free of salmonella during out breaks when Rawhide was tainted.

When there are added ingredients added to Porkhide or Rawhide treats, you have to ask yourself why are ingredients like sugar and salt added? Is there a specific nutritional value by adding those ingredients? You want to have confidence that no ingredients are added unless they have specific health benefits in whatever you feed your precious puppy or any loved pet.

Would you have peace of mind feeding your precious puppies pork treats that are healthy, with no unnecessary added ingredients, from a manufacturer with the strictest safety standards in the industry, which has resulted in never having anything recalled.

Penis Health – The 6 Steps to Rejuvenate Penis Function and Sensitivity

Without a doubt, a healthy penis leads to a happy and content man. So how is this achieved? It is all about caring for that important body part that brings so much pleasure.

Penis Health and Sexual Self-Confidence.

Ever heard the saying ‘self-love is a must before someone can truly love and satisfy another’? This philosophy also works with the penis. Learning to care for a penis builds sexual self-confidence and increases penis health, so that when it comes time to use that manhood it lives up to all expectations.

6 Ways to Improve Penis Health

Here are 6 penis health tips to keep a penis in top condition.

1. Learn how to love thy self – masturbation is a must. If a man doesn’t know how to build up sexual excitement for himself then how is he supposed to perform well in the bedroom? Get to know how the penis works. Use a good lubricant. Practice self control. Bring the penis to the edge of climax. Then back-off. Repeat this several times before climaxing. Mastering the art of self-control builds stamina and endurance, and it makes for more powerful orgasms. Plus, it adds to bedroom excitement, and makes for much more rewarding sex. Please note that masturbating 1-3 times weekly is considered normal, anything over this is considered as excessive and may actually decrease the sensitivity of the penis over time, especially if masturbation is aggressive.

2. Forget penis exercise programs and concentrate on overall health – the penis does not contain any muscle, so no amount of exercise will increase its size or diameter. However, regular exercise will improve blood circulation to the penis, especially exercises that stimulate and activate the thighs and groin. One of the best exercises a man can do every morning and evening is squats. This will not only strengthen his legs, but also invigorate the tissues and cells in this region, and increase his cardio vascular capacity.

3. Drink alcohol in moderation – alcohol reduces cell function and also decreases nerve response, this means that drinking alcohol in excessive amounts regularly will have an adverse effect on penis health. Therefore to improve penis health consider cutting down on the amount of alcohol consumed, especially before having sex. Many people believe that alcohol adds to their sexual satisfaction because they feel like they are more adventurous when under the influence. This is because alcohol reduces the level of self-consciousness and shyness is alleviated. By reducing alcohol consumption, a higher level of sexual self-confidence is gained, the body is able to respond better to stimulus and overall penis health is improved.

4. Eat a balanced diet – the human body is a machine that needs all components to be operating well in order for it to function. If one part of the body is not firing on all cylinders then this usually has an impact elsewhere. It is also vital that the human body be fed with the right fuels so that it runs at an optimal level. This means forgetting about junk foods or only eating them in moderation, and instead, eating a diet that is high in protein such as fish, chicken, eggs, and other dairy foods, as well as vegetables, cereals, and other vitamins and minerals. This will ensure optimal penis health is achieved inside and out.

5. Drink more water – water is an elixir of the Gods. It flushes out any impurities in the body and rids the body of toxins and oxidants that damage cells and reduce efficiency and function. By drinking 4-8 glasses of water daily, the kidneys and the male reproductive system is kept running at optimal levels which, in turn, aids in maintaining penis health.

6. Use a penis specific crème daily – it is suggested that a penis health creme, (health professionals recommend Man1 Man Oil), be used daily to aid in cell rejuvenation and improve penis health. This is attributed to the fact that these products contain essential vitamins, minerals, and amino acids that keep the penis in optimal condition.

Food Lectins in Health and Disease: An Introduction

In recent years it appears there is a rising epidemic of people suffering from chronic digestive and autoimmune conditions. Food intolerance or sensitivities may lie at the root of the problem. Most people, including doctors, have little clue how foods they eat may be contributing to their chronic illness, fatigue and digestive symptoms.

There are, however, a lot of clues in the medical literature and the lay public’s experience about how foods are causing and/or contributing to the current epidemic of chronic illness and autoimmune disease. There are several diets being used by many people with varying success to improve their health despite a general lack of iron clad scientific proof for their effectiveness. One of the clues to the cause and relief of food induced illness may lie in proteins known as lectins that are present in all foods.

Animal and plant sources of food both contain complex proteins known as lectins. These proteins typically have the ability to attach to sugars or carbohydrates on the surface of human cells. Some of these proteins can cause clumping of human red blood cells, a process that is called agglutination. The process of agglutination occurs when someone receives the wrong blood type during a blood transfusion. In fact, red blood cell agglutination specific to each person or groups of people is the basis for testing for blood types. There is some data that blood types may influence how people respond to certain foods though a blood type specific diet appears to have been disproven. The attachment or binding of certain food lectins can initiate a variety of cell specific effects. These reactions may mimic hormones or cause changes in cells. This is termed molecular mimicry.

Most plants contain lectins, some of which are toxic, inflammatory, or both. Many of these plant and dairy lectin are resistant to cooking and digestive enzymes. Grain lectins, for example, are quite resistant to human digestion but well suited for ruminants like cattle who have multi-chambered stomachs. Therefore, lectins are present in our food and are often resistant to our digestion and some have been scientifically shown to have significant GI toxicity in humans. Others have been shown to be beneficial and maybe even cancer protecting. Either way plant and animal proteins are foreign proteins to the body and are dealt with by digestion and our immune system in a positive or negative manner.

The human digestive system was created to handle a variety of plant and animal proteins through the process of digestion and elimination. Some plant and animal proteins or lectins are severely toxic to humans and cannot be eaten without causing death like those in Castor beans and some mushrooms. Other foods must be prepared before they are safe to be eaten. Preparations may include pealing, prolonged soaking and cooking like kidney beans. Other foods may be poorly tolerated because of a genetic predisposition or underlying pre-existing food allergy or intolerance. Others are tolerated to some degree or quantity but not in large amounts or on a frequent basis. People who are intolerant to the milk sugar lactose, because of inherited or acquired deficiency in lactase enzyme, may tolerate small amounts but may have severe bloating, gas, abdominal pain and cramps with explosive diarrhea when a large amount of lactose containing foods are eaten. Foods can become intolerable to some people after their immune system changes or gut is injured from another cause.

Of the food lectins, grain/cereal lectins; dairy lectins; and legume lectins (especially peanut lectin and soybean lectin) are the most common ones associated with reports of aggravation of inflammatory and digestive diseases in the body and improvement of those diseases and/or symptoms when avoided. Recent research by Loren Cordain PhD., has suggested that these lectins may effectively serve as a “Trojan horse” allowing intact or nearly intact foreign proteins to invade our natural gut defenses and enter behind the lines to cause damage well beyond the gut, commonly in joints, brain, and skin of affected individuals. Once damage occurs to the gut and the defense system is breached the result is what some refer to as a “leaky gut”. Moreover, many people who develop a “leaky gut” not only have gut symptoms such as bloating, gas, diarrhea, and abdominal pain but also other symptoms beyond the gut, or extra-intestinal symptoms. Commonly affected areas are the brain or peripheral nerves, skin, joints, and various body glands. With continued exposure of the gut by these toxic food lectins a persistent stimulation of the body’s defense mechanism in a dysfunctional manner, occurs, i.e. autoimmune disease.

Wrong types or levels of good and bad bacteria in the gut, or intestinal dysbiosis, may contribute to this process of abnormal stimulation of the immune system. Research supports the strong possibility that such stimulation may be accentuated …

Eye Vision Nutrition – How It Can Help Clear Blurry Vision

Recently, there has been a lot of discussion about reversing blurry vision naturally. Can regaining 20/20 vision back with natural eye exercises and eye vision nutrition really be achieved?

New studies are now confirming a connection between what you eat in relation to how your eyes perform.

Increasing your physical activity and maintaining a well-balanced diet will indeed improve the quality of your life and help preserve and improve your eye sight.

Keep in mind, anything you do that affects your cardiovascular system has the potential to damage or repair your eyesight. This includes exercises and eye vision nutrition. Any change in blood supply to the eyes can cause blockage, resulting in blurry or loss of vision. Improper diet and lack of exercise has been the catalyst for many with Type 2 diabetes which can then lead to diabetic retinopathy and eyesight loss.

A balanced diet containing the 3 major sources of fuels are proteins, fats and carbohydrates. These are necessary to keep our bodies, minds and eyes healthy and strong. Omega 3 fatty acids in fish, low fat proteins in chicken and legumes, whole grains and plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables are necessary for optimal vision.

Proper eye vision nutrition requires adequate amount of micronutrients, 50-60% complex carbohydrates, 20-25% proteins, and 20-25% fats ideally containing omega-3 fatty acids.

To help improve bad vision, follow the diet recommendations below and incorporate simple eye exercises into your lifestyle. Also, consider taking vitamin supplements to assure that you are receiving good amounts of micronutrients that are important to maintaining eye health.

Bad Eye Vision Nutrition

Saturated Fat

Fatty Meats and Whole Dairy Products

Fast Foods which are high in trans-fatty acids

Snack Foods which are high in saturated fats

Soft Drinks diet or otherwise

High Amounts of refined Sugar

Good Eye Vision Nutrition

Plenty of Fruits And Vegetables – Organic is preferred

8 Large Glasses of Water Daily

Vitamin Supplements A,B,C and D

Lutein, Beta-Carotene, Bilberry Extract

Fruits and Vegetables

Fish and Nuts

The above eye vision nutrition recommendations are not the be-all and end-all of achieving 20/20 vision. If you’re looking for more effective nutrition tips and exercises to improve your eye sight naturally, your local library and online resources are widely available. A very popular book which explains how to increase eye vision was created by the famous Dr.William Bates in the early 1900’s and is still circulation today.

What Are the Types of Foot Fungus?

When people talk about fungal foot infection, they are usually referring to one of two main types of foot fungus: infection of the skin (athlete’s foot), or infection of the toenails (onychomycosis). Both are very common, but athlete’s foot is generally much easier to get rid of.

Both kinds of foot fungus result from the organism invading and beginning to multiply on the foot. The fungus gets nutrients from keratin, a type of protein that is found in skin cells and nails. As it breaks down keratin, skin becomes flaky and scaly and nails start to crumble and discolor. The same type of fungus, most commonly one called Trichophyton rubrum, can cause both kinds of foot fungal infection, though some other types of and various yeasts normally only invade the nails.

Knowing a few foot fungus facts will help get rid of the infection faster. First, a fungal infection should always be properly diagnosed by a physician: other things can cause flaking skin and deformed nails. Second, all types of foot fungus are normally present in the environment: you don’t need to be exposed to someone with an infection to catch one yourself. Your body’s immune system fights off most kinds of foot fungus on its own, but if you do see signs, you should act promptly before it becomes too advanced.

There are other important foot fungus facts, regarding infections, treatment options, and what to expect with various remedies. There are prescription drugs, over the counter medications, homeopathic preparations and home remedies. Antifungal drugs will work against all types of foot fungus, though your doctor may choose a different treatment for a nail infected with yeast.

On the skin, most kinds of foot fungus clear up quite quickly with a topical treatment (creams, ointments, powders), while fungal nail infections are often difficult to cure because topical treatments don’t reach the growth under the thick nail. Treatment may need to be continued for many months. Knowing these foot fungus facts will keep you from getting discouraged if you don’t see treatment results as quickly as you expected.

Practice a few simple things to help your body fight off all kinds of foot fungus. Fungi like damp warm conditions, so keep your feet clean and make sure you dry them well after bathing. Wear shoes in wet public places like swimming pool decks and showers, but if your feet tend to be sweaty, avoid wearing shoes for extended periods – your feet need a chance to dry. Change and launder your socks regularly and use an antifungal powder in your shoes.

Some types of foot fungus are common in soil, but it’s okay to go barefoot as long as you don’t have cuts or irritated skin that could allow a fungus entry. In fact, it’s good for your feet to get fresh air. Finally, remember your foot fungus facts, keep your nails trimmed, apply first aid promptly to any foot injury, and keep an eye on your skin and nails so that you spot a developing fungal foot infection right away.

Most Salad Dressings Contain MSG, Trans-Fatty Acids and Refined Sugars – Do Yours?

Most bottled salad dressings contain MSG, trans-fatty acids and/or contain lots of sugar, corn syrup or other refined sugars instead, none of which are good for your health.

MSG in Salad Dressings

Store bought salad dressings almost always contain MSG, which is a brain neurotoxin. MSG has not only been shown to cause neurological and other problems, and that is reason enough to stay away from it, but in addition, MSG seems to make you fat! In lab experiments, scientists actually induce obesity in lab animals by feeding them MSG! Almost all processed and packaged foods including salad dressings contain MSG, even if it is not clearly indicated on the label. In fact, salad dressings, soups and sauces often have rather high amounts of it. So check your labels for MSG and monosodium glutamate, as well as natural flavors, textured and hydrolyzed protein, and autolyzed yeast, which almost always contain MSG.

Trans-Fatty Acids in Salad Dressings

Salad dressings that are not fat-free often contain oils that are highly processed and often rancid and sources of trans-fatty acids. Producers can legally say their product contains NO trans fatty acids if the level is below.5 grams per serving, so you can actually consume quite a bit of trans fatty acids over the course of a day with products that supposedly contain no trans fatty acids. Authorities have said that NO level of trans fatty acids is safe! In addition, vegetable oils are well known by researchers to reduce your immune function, so well known that they are given to transplant patients to lower their immune function enough so their body will not reject the foreign organ.

Refined Sugars in Salad Dressings

In addition, store bought salad dressings usually contain refined sweeteners like corn syrup or high fructose corn syrup as well as many other chemicals used as stabilizers, preservatives, artificial colorants, and more. Fat-free dressings are likely to contain far higher amounts of sugar than those with the fats in them. Here are a couple of ingredients labels for two common salad dressings:

Thousand Island Dressing Ingredients: Soybean oil, high fructose corn syrup, water, pickle relish, vinegar, tomato paste, salt, dehydrated egg yolk, algin derivative and xanthan gum (for consistency), mustard flour, natural flavors (almost always contains MSG and is far from natural despite the name), dehydrated onion, spice, calcium disodium EDTA (to preserve freshness.)

Ranch Nonfat Dressing (Fat Free & Cholesterol Free) Ingredients: Water, corn syrup, cultured lowfat buttermilk, vinegar, garlic juice, cellulose gel, sugar, salt, skim milk, sour cream (dried), onion (dried), xanthan gum, malto-dextrin, monosodium glutamate with potassium sorbate and calcium disodium EDTA as preservatives, lactic acid, natural flavor (almost always contains MSG), propylene glycol alginate, cultured skim milk (dried), artificial color, phosphoric acid, lemon juice concetntrate, green onion (dried), spice, Dl-alpha tocopherol acetate (synthetic vitamins E)

Homemade Salad Dressings are a More Nutritious Addition to Your Diet

Homemade salad dressings can add many nutrients to your diet such as essential fatty acids, and vitamins and antioxidants in the way of herbs, and the fat in them can actually help your body to absorb the nutrients from your food. We recommend the use real, pure ingredients such as extra virgin olive oil, cold-pressed walnut oil and buttermilk for your homemade dressings. Even the much touted canola oil has been shown to have problems — it contributes to vitamin E deficiency and goes rancid easily. This means that it is often deodorized to mask the rancid smell, and this process creates trans fatty acids.

Karen’s French Vinaigrette

1 Clove Garlic (crushed)

2 teaspoons Dijon Mustard

2 teaspoons Miso (optional)

2 Tablespoons Organic Balsalmic Vinegar

1/2 cup Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Mince the garlic in a mini blender, then add the mustard (and optional miso, if using) and vinegar and mix well. Add the olive oil, and mix until creamy smooth. You can add fresh herbs if you have any, and also a little water if it is too thick. Keeps in the fridge for up to 1 week.

Karen’s Homemade Ranch Dressing

3/4 cup mayonnaise

1/2 cup buttermilk

1 tsp dried parsley (or 1 Tbsp fresh)

1 tsp dried dill (or 1 Tbsp fresh)

1 tsp dried chives (or 1 Tbsp fresh)

1/2 tsp dried onion powder

1/2 tsp dried garlic powder (or 1 clove, mashed)

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp pepper

2 Tbsp parmesan cheese (optional)

Whip all ingredients together and let sit in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours. If you like your dressing thicker, try using sour cream in place of the buttermilk. If you like it thinner, try 1/2 cup mayo and 3/4 cup buttermilk. Bon Appetit!

Alternatives to Robert’s Rules

Some people complain that Robert’s Rules is too complex to understand. Some people say that parliamentary procedure itself is too complex or too unfair. They say the act of “making motions” and the processing of “majority vote” should not require a zillion rules.

Well, guess what? It isn’t a monopoly. You can shop around.

If you don’t like the current edition of Robert’s Rules of Order (namely, the 11th edition published in 2011 which is titled “Robert’s Rules of Order Newly Revised”, published by DaCapo Press), then your organization is free to adopt another competing parliamentary manual.

Indeed, before 1876, the first year of publication of the original edition of the little pocket-sized book by Henry Martyn Robert, all organizations necessarily had to draft their own customized set of parliamentary rules, because they had to – there was no neat, complete compilation available to the average civic organization. That little pocket-sized handbook of H. M. Robert filled a marketing niche which had zero competitors.

Or, your organization can adopt no manual at all and draft their own 100% customized rules. That’s right – complete anarchy except for whatever your bylaws specify plus whatever unique rules you create yourselves. There’s nothing stopping you from re-inventing the wheel – indeed, a 200-page, 300-page, 400-page “wheel,” depending on how complete you want your customized manual to be. But do you really have 3 to 6 years free for such an undertaking?

If you don’t want to spend 3-6 years drafting your own parliamentary manual, and if you don’t like the 700+ pages of the current edition of Robert’s Rules, then what is the alternative? Where can you turn to for a set of democratic rules ready to be applied? What real alternative is out there, right now, which can improve upon, or can replace, Robert’s Rules?

Good news on this front: Someone has taken a poll.

One parliamentarian, Jim Slaughter of North Carolina, wrote an article (see footnote) which lists the most popular alternatives to Robert’s Rules. In his poll, he asked working parliamentarians what parliamentary authority their clients were using. Slaughter’s findings were as follows.

• 90% use “Robert’s Rules of Order Newly Revised”

• 8% use “The Standard Code of Parliamentary Procedure”

• 3% use some other parliamentary authority

Since #2 on the list is “The Standard Code of Parliamentary Procedure” (abbreviated “TSC” for “The Standard Code”), then let’s discuss this book for its potential to replace Robert’s Rules.

The author of TSC was the late Alice F. Sturgis (1885-1974) who had some serious credentials working with the United Nations. She taught at Stanford University (Palo Alto, CA) and the University of California (Berkeley, CA). Her first book on parliamentary procedure was published in 1925. After the death of Sturgis, the revision of the book has been in the hands of a committee of the American Institute of Parliamentarians. The current edition is the 2000 4th edition.

Some large organizations have taken the big step, and have swapped the Sturgis book for the Robert book: the American Bar Association, the American Medical Association, the American Dental Association, and the United Automobile Workers Union.

What is different in the Sturgis book? To a non-parliamentarian reader, the rules in the current edition of TSC might appear so similar to Robert’s Rules that the differences are not obvious. Indeed, any parliamentary manual you choose must necessarily have a significant overlap with all other parliamentary manuals, due to the nature of 300 years of British customs and traditions being passed on more or less intact to all democratically-elected legislatures. The basics have not changed in 2,000 years. – (a.) Propose an idea; (b.) Debate the advantages and disadvantages; (c.) Vote whether to carry it out or not. The terminology has been likewise preserved down through the centuries. Whatever differences exist will be regarding specific motions, specific applications, and not wholesale changes.

What you get with the Sturgis’ TSC fourth edition is satisfaction for a few of the most popular demands over the 11th edition of Robert’s Rules of Order: (a.) fewer pages; (b.) larger print; (c.) fewer motions; (d.) change of jargon to plain English.

No surprise here. One thing you can count on is that today’s competitors to Robert’s Rules will have simplified something or condensed something. That is, no one is putting out a parliamentary manual of more pages, more rules, than the current edition of Robert’s Rules, namely, 716 numbered pages, and the book lists 86 numbered motions in its table. How many of the 86 motions will you see in your lifetime?

Beware the difference in philosophy. The Sturgis book, plus all similar condensations and simplifications, are meant to be understood as a book of essential rules, with principles covering implicitly what the written rules do not cover explicitly. In contrast, …

Vision Improving Phytochemical Rich Foods For Better Eyesight

When it comes to improving vision and maintaining healthy eyesight research studies suggest that there is a link between the quality of our diet and the quality of our vision health. For instance, studies show that diets that lack fruits and vegetables and include lots of junk foods and sugary foods tend to increase the risks for eye diseases such as macular degeneration, cataracts and diabetic retinopathy. On the other hand, diets that are rich in whole grains, fruits, vegetables and healthy proteins like albacore tuna, salmon and fish help to significantly reduce the risks for age related eye diseases. When it comes to nutrition for better vision one particular term you have probably heard mentioned many times is the word phytochemical. What are phytochemicals and what role do they play in protecting and improving our vision health?

Phytochemicals are a wide variety of chemical compounds in plants that are found in a variety of different foods such as fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts and legumes. These chemical compounds serve a variety of useful functions. They play various roles in the body in terms of disease fighting properties. They also play a role in maintaining good general health. These natural chemical plant compounds give fruits and vegetables their green, red, and purple colors and reduce the risks for diseases such as cancer, boost the body’s immune system, lower blood pressure and promote better heart health.

Phytochemicals are subdivided into 4 main categories. These include carotenoids, flavonoids, ellagic acid and allium compounds,(medicinal protective chemicals in plants that protect the heart and immune system found in onions, scallions, chives and garlic). In addition to their general health benefits the subdivision of phytochemicals called carotenoids play a major role in improving vision and protecting eye health. Some types of carotenoids include beta carotene, lycopene, lutein and zeaxanthin.

Beta Carotene: Beta Carotene which is a precursor to Vitamin A plays a role in protecting the surface of the eyes (the cornea) from bacterial infections. Vitamin A in combination with other vision promoting nutrients like Vitamin C, E, Zinc and Copper reduces the risks for age related vision diseases.

Lycopene: This is the pigment that gives tomatoes their red color. Scientific research suggests that Lycopene when combined with other vision supporting nutrients such as Lutein and Zeaxanthin may actually reduce the risks for age related macular degeneration and cataracts in aging eyes.

Lutein and Zeaxanthin: These antioxidants collectively play a role in filtering out harmful blue light from the sun and act as natural sunglasses in protecting eyesight. Concentrations of these antioxidants are found in the highest levels in the tissues of the eyes more than any other part of the body. Therefore, they play a role as powerful antioxidants in neutralizing disease causing free radical cells in the eyes that cause harm to healthy eye cells. Their role in reducing age related eye diseases such as macular degeneration and cataracts has been documented in scientific research studies.

Phytochemicals are a wide variety of disease fighting chemical compounds in plants providing a variety of health benefits. These include a reduction in heart disease, immune system boosting benefits, and a reduction in age related vision disorders. By including food sources of these healthy plant compounds in our diet, we are doing something good for our general health while protecting our precious eyesight as well.

Penis Health Cremes – What You Need To Know

The skin of the penis can be highly sensitive and is susceptible to a number of common health issues, which can cause penis redness, loss of penile sensation, penis itchiness, irritation, painful intercourse, and unpleasant odors. Maintaining this delicate area using a moisturizer or penis health crème containing penis-specific vitamins and minerals may help to prevent common penis problems. It is important to keep in mind that not all skin care products are equal; therefore, it is essential to know what to look for in a penis health crème. The best penis care products should do the following:

Moisturize – The skin of the penis is subject to some rough treatment. Aggressive masturbation, intercourse, tight clothing, and harsh chemical detergents can all dry and irritate the skin of the penis, causing flaking, redness and soreness and even increasing the chances of developing a painful infection when bacteria are allowed to penetrate through microscopic fissures in the outer dermal layer. Products containing ingredients such as shea butter and vitamin E can moisturize the skin, keeping it soft and supple and preventing uncomfortable dryness and irritation.

Heal – The surface of the skin is easily damaged; even without being aware of it, tiny cracks may develop in the skin’s surface, frequent masturbation and aggressive sex can damage penis cell neurons and actually diminish penis sensation. One important study show that 87% of men at age 39 have experienced some loss of penile sensation. A good healthy crème should contain vital nutrients that the body needs to repair damaged skin cells and heal after damage to the skin’s surface. Vitamin B5 and vitamin D are noted for their ability to help the body heal after injury, while vitamin C is important for the growth of collagen, the tissue that gives skin its structure and elasticity. Amino acids such as L-arginine and acetyl L carnitine are also important in rebuilding damaged skin cells and promoting overall dermatological health.

Protect – Protecting penis skin from harmful environmental agents and minor fungal and bacterial infections is essential for optimum penis health. Antioxidant nutrients such as vitamins A and C can protect the skin cells from free radicals, boost immune function, and help the body to fight off skin infections that can cause rash, itching and soreness.

Maintaining penis health should include good personal hygiene, as well as maintaining a healthy diet, getting plenty of exercise, and choosing sexual partners with care; wearing loose-fitting, comfortable clothing made from natural fabrics can also keep the area clean and dry.

Use a penis health crème or skin care products?

Numerous products that are on the market have been recommended at one time or another for caring for the skin of the penis; these include everything from olive oil to baby oil to skin moisturizers and anti-wrinkle creams. However, these products are not designed specifically for treating the skin of the penis. Olive oil, for instance, is not easily absorbed, and applying it to the penile skin can leave a sticky and unpleasant mess; while cosmetic skin creams and baby oil often contain fragrances, coloring agents and other chemicals that can cause irritation to the delicate skin of the penis, particularly if it is accidentally applied to the urethral opening.

Health professionals recommend treating penis skin with a specialized penis health crème (most health professionals recommend Man1 Man Oil) that can help to prevent common penis problems such as dry skin, red penis, penis rash, irritation and diminished penis sensitivity. The benefits provided by the penis-specific ingredients, which include several essential vitamins, minerals, and amino acids, can boost the body’s natural healing ability and keep you feeling great and performing at your best.
