Physical Fitness Test For Youth Athletes

Traditionally, many children grow up thinking of conditioning activities as a punishment for poor behavior. Late for gym class? 25 push-ups. Talking too much during volleyball practice? 10 laps around the gym.

However, conditioning is an essential method of building muscle strength, flexibility, and overall athlete readiness for an active lifestyle, and coaches and parents should work to remove the negative connotations it can carry.

To help your players understand the importance of conditioning and how it fits into a healthy sports preparation program, include it regularly as part of your practices. If physical fitness is presented as a normal, everyday part of an athlete’s activities at sports practice, there will be no resentment toward it or avoidance of it.

Here are some tips on how to incorporate physical fitness testing as part of your regular practices:

· Inform parents and players at the beginning of the season about your conditioning plan

· Include conditioning in practices regularly and at the same point in practice, such as just after the warm-up

· Measure athlete progress during conditioning by testing their abilities at the beginning of the season, in the middle, and near the end

· Give awards or recognition for athletes making improvements because of conditioning

· Explain the impact that conditioning has on players abilities to perform certain skills and improve their performance

All athletes should come to respect and understand conditioning and its impact on sports performance. If they begin to look at it as a tool to build strength, endurance, and agility on the field, they will come to the exercises with more dedication and enthusiasm.

Physical fitness is comprised of many different components. The following factors affect an athlete’s overall fitness level and ability to play a sport:

· Lung capacity and ability to process adequate oxygen while exercising

· Body mass index, or percentage of body fat

· Muscle flexibility

· Muscle endurance

· Response time

· Proper diet and nutrient intake

A coach’s physical conditioning plan should take into account the basic benchmarks for physical fitness for certain levels and ages. If a coach has unreasonable expectations for their players endurance levels, they will be disappointed with team’s performance at conditioning drills as well as during the actual competition.

However, when coaches understand that all factors of physical fitness develop with time, they are more able to create a plan that takes into account the age and sport of their players to develop the most appropriate plan possible for the skills those players need to develop.

Creating a physical fitness program is also a great way to catch any limiting factors for athletes, such as dangerously high BMI, or body mass index. This factor, which determines the percentage of fat in the body in relation to muscle, is an indicator of other issues that may require a doctor’s care. Another factor, lung capacity can also be determined simply through a physical fitness program.

Though it may seem that some players do not have the endurance that others do, the problem may actually be related to lung capacity and that player’s ability to process oxygen. Exercise-induced asthma, a common condition brought on by rigorous sports participation, affects many athletes but goes unnoticed or misdiagnosed. A simple physical fitness program may bring this condition to light, because if a player is conditioning at the same level as their peers in exercises such as push-ups and sit-ups, they should have a similar level of endurance. If not, something else, such as asthma, may be to blame.

Attaining Holistic Health in Spite of the Busy Schedule

Are you physically fit? Do you have inner peace in you? Or are you even emotionally stable? If your answer to these three questions is yes, then probably your holistic health is of good status. But what exactly do we mean by holistic health?

Holistic health is the over all wellness of an individual. It covers the physical, emotional, psychological and as well as spiritual well-being of a person. In short, it is the totality of an individual’s health and wellness.

Today, people tend to overlook a lot of things due to their fast-paced life. It seems like everything is now created to cope up with people’s lifestyle. A very good example of which is the so-called fast food chains. They are so abundant nowadays that you can see them in almost every street or corner you pass by on.

The society had already been warned about the risks of eating foods from Mc Donald’s, Kentucky Fried Chicken and the likes because of its harmful effects on the body which can lead to different kinds of diseases such as obesity, heart and kidney problems and so on. In spite of the warning, people still opt to eat such foods due to lack of time. Little do they know that they are putting their health and even life at stake.

Exercise is another thing that we need to consider. Most of us neglect its importance to our health and wellness. We’re all preoccupied with our jobs and other commitments so we have no time to spare an hour or even 30-minutes for exercise. We rather choose to purchase those fast and effective slimming pills and tablets from the advertisements because it is effortless yet very effective. But are we being wise about our decision?

Slimming pill companies lure its consumers because of the promising effect on losing weight. It makes us lose 3 to 5 pounds per week but is it really healthy? According to dieticians, the maximum recommended weight loss, in a per week basis, is only 2 pounds. Losing too much pounds in a week alters the physiology of our body systems which can be detrimental to our health.

We lack quality time with our partners because of our hectic schedules. This is the reason why broken relationships like divorce and annulments are quite common in our society. As we all know, unsuccessful relationships can lead to emotional and sometimes psychological instability to an individual which can be manifested through despair and even depression.

Being busy does not mean that we have to put aside our health and wellness already. There are still some simple ways in which we can do in order for us to achieve a good holistic health. Here are some of them:

First, we can wake up at least 20 minutes earlier than the usual to prepare foods which will last till dinner time. There are a lot of easy to cook and to prepare foods which are very nutritious like sandwiches, salads and so on. By doing this, you will not be tempted to eat in fast-food chains anymore.

Second, there are still numerous exercises in which you can do while accomplishing your jobs and commitments at the same time. For starters, you can take the stairs instead of the elevators. You can also walk short-distance places instead of driving or taking a cab to get there. Remember that exercising not only makes us physically fit but it also contributes to the positive mental health of an individual which in turn makes us holistically healthy.

Five to ten minutes break every two hours or so wouldn’t hurt for you to call your significant other and say “How are you doing?” and “I love you” in order to maintain a harmonious relationship with each other. You can also surprise your partner every now and then even if there is no occasion at all.

Living healthy is a continuous process. Focus, determination and self-control plays an important part in achieving holistic health. Every action has its own consequence so be smart in every decision making. You are the boss of your own body. Your good health and success all depends on you. There is no better day to start living a healthy life than today.

And truthfully, have you not been able to stick to your planned routines for exercise and healthier eating? Is it possible that before you can do these other things, you need a little help, more energy to do the other things you know are good for you? Are you punishing yourself because you can’t do them–trying to whip yourself into your discipline?

There is one very simple thing you can do is to go to sleep early enough and get a proper night’s rest. There is a lot of information about …

The Difference Between Owing And Owning Is Fundamental To Your Health

As the world goes into a financial meltdown, I am not surprised.

What does surprise me is that other people are surprised…

Why would this financial meltdown surprise anyone?

Have you seen how much stuff people have that they do not OWN but they OWE on??!!

In basic terms, if you have not bought something outright, you do not OWN it… But you sure as hell OWE on it.

Whether that be the house you pay a mortgage on, the car you have financed, or the clothes on your back that you paid for with a credit card you have not fully paid off.

If you have not paid for something free and clear, then you do not OWN it… it OWNS you… and you OWE for it.

I know that governments, banks, car dealerships, department stores, computer makers and credit card companies have all sold you a convenient story, but kidding yourself that you OWN something when you have not paid for it in full is a recipe for disaster.

Look around you and see –

Houses are in foreclosure – why? Because they were OWNed by people who had not and could not pay for them?

Debt is mounting – why? Because credit cards offer a false sense of superiority that leads to unnecessary purchases. Yes, I wrote superiority – because credit cards allow you to live beyond your means…

Possessions are excessively available, and all the while they are bought by people who cannot afford them and do not deserve them.

Most of the problems people face are brought about by dishonesty – and most of the dishonesty is with the person buying.

If you cannot easily afford it, then do not buy it.

Take the complication out of your life and start to appreciate what you have instead of pretending to be able to afford what you do not need.

Trying to screw over the system will only screw you up in the end – it really is not complicated unless you refuse to be honest.

I am fully aware that sometimes we need to borrow money to make a purchase that will ultimately be an investment, and that is all well and good as long as the payments are affordable and the investment is logical – if you buy a house and you borrow the money, be sure to factor in the taxes, yearly bills and fees, improvement costs and furniture needs – if you buy a house and cannot afford it in the longterm you will not only lose the house, you will lose your pride, your health and your peace of mind.

And remember, you do not OWN that house until you have paid it off – so, for 35 years you OWE on the house.

If your mortgage payment does not pay down the principal, then your mortgage payment is a trick that is wasting money.

If you cannot sleep at night because you are worried about your mortgage payment, then your house is not a good investment.

If you are not easily affording the possessions you buy, then the momentary thrill is only going to come back and bite you in the ass.

Be aware of what you earn and then make sure to spend less – save… and then spend – the loss of anxiety is worth all the money in the world.

Would it not be better to save up for what we want before we buy it?

If we saved our money, then we would have a twofold benefit – we would value what we bought and we would not be in debt.

Why is debt so bad?

Because debt leads to anxiety which leads to illness which leads to hospital bills and more debt which leads to more anxiety…

Before you buy that thing you do not need, try saving up for it first and then seeing if you still want it once you have the money to really OWN it.

Gluten Free Diet – Are You Vitamin Deficient?

Vitamin D plays a vital role in helping your gut when you are celiac or gluten intolerant as it has been found to play an important role in preserving the mucosal barrier.

Now you have been diagnosed as being unable to eat anything containing gluten, it is important to take some kind of multivitamin supplement because your body is not able to absorb the vital vitamins which are in food. As with all thing of a medical nature, you should consult your physician before taking supplements as they will be able to ascertain which vitamins you need to take and which dosage.

Gluten-free products are often low in vitamin D, iron, zinc, magnesium, B vitamins, calcium and fiber so it is important to ensure you have these vitamins included in your diet gluten free diet. When you have been newly diagnosed, you will probably find that you are vitamin deficient due to the way your intestines have been (mis) functioning, so it is wise to begin ingesting vitamin supplements soon as you can, again consult your physician.

You should also be watching your cholesterol levels too. In your life before having go gluten free, your cholesterol levels may have been very low. This is more than likely due to the fact your body was not absorbing any of the cholesterol you were eating. So now your tummy is getting better because you are eating the foods which are right for you, you may find that cholesterol is now being absorbed, so just keep an eye on it.

I take vitamins B-6 and B-12 but I do try to include the food groups which these vitamins are found such as spinach, brown rice, avocado, potatoes, chicken and salmon. Of course, whole grains and wheat contain these vitamins, but hey ho, I can not eat these but there are plenty of other foods I can eat which contain them.

These unfortunately on their own do not provide all the nutrition I need, mainly due to cooking processes, even though I do try to steam anything that can be steamed! So I have to take supplements too.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Alternative Medicine

There are reasons why people chose alternative medicine and reasons why they avoid it, preferring conventional medicine. Alternative medicine is safer than standard health treatments and usually works. It’s true that it can’t be used in severe conditions like car accidents or other severe emergencies, but be that as it may, there are enough situations in which alternative medicine is recommended. When it comes to emotional and spiritual needs, non-conventional medicine may come up with the solution. Furthermore, it’s better for preventing illnesses than standard medicine. More and more physicians nowadays agree upon the benefits of alternative medicine and also even advise their clients to choose the best natural treatment for them.

One of the advantages of alternative medicine is that it encompasses a broad range of therapies, treatments and products, thus the search for obtaining positive results doesn’t flow on a narrow path at all.

A pretty important disadvantage states the idea that, even though the expenses of using acupuncture or chiropractic are sometimes covered by health insurances, the majority of alternative treatments are not reimbursed.

There are certain risks that come along with the usage of natural remedies. Despite the use of herbs throughout the years and even ancient times, not all of them have been studied regarding their safety and efficiency. There are issues concerning their purity and their possible interaction with other substances related to conventional therapies. The majority of information regarding herbs have been perpetuated throughout history and with the help of tradition. Many people assume that herbal medicines are better than synthetic drugs simply because, well, they are natural and not synthetic, therefore present no risk. But they are not risk free; they can do more harm than good if taken without having the details of their effects over the body.

People might abuse of natural medicines the same way as they do it in the case of synthetic drugs. They have the misconception that if unconventional medicine consists of herbal products which are natural, then there is no harm done if they triple the dosage or more. This is totally wrong and can have serious consequences. Take vitamins for example. They are just vitamins, right? They can’t possibly do any damage inside the body. But they do. Vitamin overdosing or vitamin toxicity can lead to unpleasant effects depending on the vitamin that has been taken one too many times. Vitamin A over dosage can cause liver problems, osteoporosis, hair loss and other dangerous effects and Hypervitaminosis D leads to dehydration, vomiting, anorexia and even kidney stones.

An advantage of using herbal remedies concerns the effectiveness related with chronic health issues that don’t respond well or even at all to traditional medicines. If long term medication is needed, then herbs are pretty much safer than conventional drugs. The alternative medicine industry takes advantage from this and keeps evolving and developing due to the constant need for natural remedies.

Another advantage is the low cost of herbal products compared to synthetic drugs which are highly priced for the simple reason that researching and testing the products is expensive. Furthermore, herbal products can be bought without a prescription and are easy to procure. The availability of natural remedies is outstanding; chamomile for example can be easily picked out from a nearby field.

The advantages of using herbal medicines are numerous, but so are the disadvantages. The best idea would be to consider modern medicine according to the severity of the illness, to consult a physician upon the proper medication and dosage and if you do chose the alternative medicine, try to gather enough information upon both kinds of treatments, natural or synthetic, so you may reassure yourself that you took the right decision to balance your health situation.

What You Need to Do Now To Lower Your Healthcare Costs

We often think of medical expenses at a time when we are least capable of coping with them – when we're sick. With healthcare costs increasing as we age, the sooner we plan for our health, the sooner we'll start planning a healthier life. So what do we do as we face medical bills looming over us threatening to wipe out our retirement nest egg in our golden years?

According to the Employee Benefit Research Institute a man who retires at 65 can expect to live until 83. He will need to have around $ 65k to $ 109k in those years to cover insurance premiums and out of pocket expenses. That works out to $ 270 to $ 450 a month.

For women, the EBRI says retiring at 65 and living until 85 will mean she'll need $ 88k to $ 146k for insurance premiums and out of pocket expenses which works out to $ 366 to $ 608 a month. Both men and women will need these amounts on hand to provide a 50% chance of having enough to cover these expenses. If you're getting $ 1000 a month from Social Security these costs will eat up about 25% to 60% of those payments alone.

If you have managed to secure a considerable nest egg, good for you. If you have not, it might be time get some part time work. Beside, retirement is boring. You know, all that rest and relaxation gets old pretty quick.

Here's a novel idea that can save you money on healthcare costs. According to the National Foundation for anti-aging, "most aging is premature." Poor posture, low energy, brittle bones are not aging, but a disease. Sitting around, also known as the Disuse Syndrome causes fatigue, frailness and aging at a much faster rate. You can stay out of the health care merry-go-round much better with some good habits. And just how do you do that? Start an exercise program geared towards your needs, abilities or limits. That means if you have limited mobility, seek seated exercise programs. If your knees are gone, ride a bike or do some gentle exercise programs. If you have asthma, do not take up hiking in the mountains. Start slow and take walks around the neighborhood. It's important to find something you enjoy because you're more likely to do it. The more you do it the healthier you get. If you have arthritis, do an exercise program especially for arthritis and limber up your joints and muscles.

You need not strive to be an athlete. If you are just getting started, exercise will make you healthy. You'll have stronger muscles to lift things, denser bones to absorb shock from falls and a stronger heart to pump more blood and oxygen to all the organs in your body which makes them all work better. Pills, sometimes necessary, are not always easy fix and can cause many undesirable side effects and mask the symptoms. Exercise can get to the root of the problem and eliminate the cause. There are countless examples of people who were taking a dozen pills a day that went down to 2, 3 or none a day because of regular exercise.

The healthier you are, the less likely it is you will have to employ the skills and costs of doctors, nurses, physical or occupational therapists and pharmacists for whatever ails you. They worked long and hard to acquire those skills and they can not afford to work cheap. You worked long and hard for your retirement and you can not afford to lose it all to Twinkies and watching TV. Plan for your health now instead of being a patient for your health care plan.

How Colon Cleansing Promotes Health

Our body is designed for the guts to move after each meal. In our western civilization, that is tough to do so we have trained our body to once per day. When our colons became backed up then major issues can develop. A poisonous colon can end up in food bigotry and becomes a breeding area for bacteria. Although you'll have regular bowel movements, the waste can pass through the gut and still leave amassed residual on the walls behind it. A unclean colon could cause the muscles of the gut wall to lose tone, and ballooning or pouches can form causing diverticulosis. Food is surrounded in these pouches and becoming breeding grounds for bacteria. How does one clear out the colon? There are a few alternative ways, some that may do it quickly and some steadily. There's even colon hydrotherapy that is extraordinarily fast and an effective way to wash away years of impected feces and poisons.

A more steady process will do the same, but you can start to see improvements inside a short while after beginning the method. Skin conditions disappear, prolonged fatigue is assuaged, and the whites of the eyes regaining their young clearness.

Water is a vital part of the cleansing. The body keeps the liquids because it does not get enough liquid and attempts to hold on to what it is getting. The advice is to drink 2 quarts of water a day and start the day with at least a pint of hot water before breakfast. I am able to personally swear to that, as I was needed to do a bowel cleaning before having a colonoscopy. After going through 3 days of fasting and purgatives and foul tasting stuff to drink, I had my test. Nothing was found, but the result was that I felt superb and had no Irritable Bowel Attacks for over 3 years after I had my test.

There are additions available that are designed in particular for colon cleaning. It has been recounted that a constructive effect of colon cleaning is a positive feeling and becoming intensely energetic. Reducing the poisons and the breeding zone for germs also may lead to a dramatic increase in protection from any sort of infection.

Agoraphobia Is Not the Opposite of Claustrophobia

Agoraphobia isn’t the opposite of claustrophobia – but a lot of people think it is. In fact I used to think exactly that. I used to think exactly that even when I was suffering from agoraphobia. I was even offered the opportunity to join an agoraphobics group, but I said no because I wasn’t afraid of open spaces. I quite liked open spaces as long as no one else was anywhere near me. In fact if there was no other human being in sight, then that was OK as far as I was concerned. But that was all a very long time ago.

The translation of agoraphobia is ‘fear of the market place’, not, as many people think, fear of open spaces. The essence of the market place is people and human interaction. This is what is fearful. Places that agoraphobes typically avoid, or have problems with, are supermarkets, theatres, cinemas, crowds, parties. Places where a rapid exit might be difficult.

The fear is usually of showing oneself up in some way in the eyes of others. Typically agoraphobes worry about things like: vomiting (usually as a result of severe anxiety); fainting; having a panic attack; or suffering from a genuine health emergency like a heart attack. The concern is usually one of embarrassment – perhaps fainting and finding oneself on a supermarket floor gazing up into a circle of concerned faces who will insist on making a fuss and calling an ambulance.

Many agoraphobes manage to get by with a trusted helper who accompanies them when they need to go shopping or out socialising. This person is there to rescue them and take them home should anything bad, like a panic attack occur. But when that helper is not available life is very restricted.

If medical help is obtained the most likely result is medication with tranquillisers and anti-depressants. Neither of which actually solve the problem, they just enable a minimum level of functionality. The problem remains, like a monster in the wardrobe, waiting to show its scary face as soon as you turn off the lights,  or look the other way. So you are trapped. The medication keeps the monster locked in the wardrobe, but doesn’t get rid of it. Stop the medication and the monster is free once more.

Life as an agoraphobe is no fun at all.

So if you are agoraphobic and reading this I want to reassure you about a few things:

  • This is not a disease, but you can ‘heal’ it.
  • There is nothing physically wrong with you.
  • Your brain is as normal as anyone else’s.
  • The cause is the way you think.
  • The cure is changing the way you think.

Changing the way you think is not easy, but it is a lot easier than living the isolated, fearful, life of an agoraphobe.

When you think about the totality of the change you need to make, it seems an insurmountable task.

When you think about the single next step you need to take – it becomes not only possible, but relatively easy.

The first steps are the most difficult. Every step after those first few become easier. They become easier because you have the memory of success and knowledge that what you are doing is already making a positive difference to your life.

Medical Transcription – A Glamorous Lucrative Career

What is medical transcription?

The process of transcribing doctor-dictated dictations for the purposes of documentation as a medical record is simply termed as medical transcription. The person who transcribes the dictations into a document is a medical transcriptionist or a medical transcription professional. The process originated in the West. The person who did this job used to be called as a medical assistant who used to be with the doctor at the hospital writing down notes instructed by him. Advancement of this process is electronic conversion of the dictations.

Why and who?

For insurance purposes and maintenance of medical records. The major player outsourcing medical transcription work is USA. Canada, UK, and Australia have some. The outsourced countries include India, Philippines, Indonesia to name a few among others. The medical transcription professional needs a wide knowledge of medical terminology, American English, and critical thinking skills that may help him/her to interpret what is dictated to produce accurate documents. The dictator speaks over a hand-held device called a Dictaphone or a electronic recorder or a device which has a 1-button solution to upload his voice into the server. The transcriber downloads them at his location through a server that is provided to him by the organization he works for. He then transcribes the dictations into medico legal document.

Why outsourcing?

Medical transcription happens to be one of the earliest BPO jobs outsourced to India. Indians have strong English communicating skills due to the curriculum followed from the days pre-independence. The time difference of 12 hours between India and USA makes it easier for the doctors/clinics to have their reports on their table at their next visit to the clinic. Furthermore, cost of labor is much cheaper for the outsourcer.

Potential?

Medical transcription has a strong employment in both India and the United States. One can work for a company that serves for the Healthcare Industry. The model also involves working at home as independent contractors. In India, the independent home transcriptionist model is growing to gain much popularity. It is said, still a larger portion of the work is still to be outsourced from US. Both NASSCOM in India and the US Department of Labor have identified this career as having a higher growth potential year by year.

Earnings potential?

As far as the money making is concerned, the fresher in medical transcription earns a starting salary approximately around Rs. 5000 and after 2 years of experience, his money making capability goes to around Rs. 15,000. Careers advancement can lead him to become an Editor or a Leader of a team in a company which could fetch him around Rs.20,000 or more. In these days of growing population and a means to earn money, this is quite decent for an Indian standard.

Allied careers?

Medical coding and billing are showing up as allied careers related to medical transcription.

Facts About Scooby Doo

In the mid 60's parent groups started protesting about the Saturday cartoon – shows being too violent and the need of a child friendly program was interested. This is where Scooby Doo stepped in order to rescue the Saturday TV situation. Scooby Doo started off as an animated TV- series as early as year 1969. The original characters were Shaggy, Fred, Velma, Daphne and last but certainly not least, Scooby Doo. They all together form the members of a gang and calls themselves "Mystery Incorporated". However as the years went past new characters have been added to the series such as Scooby Doo's cousin Scooby-Dum and his nephew Scrappy-Doo.

The main character, Scooby Doo is an animated talking dog. He is big and brown with some black spots for recognition and he's always wearing a blue collar with his initials written on it. His vocabulary is not great and he's got a speech impediment which results in most of his words to start with a R. So Scooby's classic phrase "Scooby Dooby Doo" sometimes sounds like "Rooby Rooby Roo" there before he prefers to use charades in most situations to make himself understood. Something that would also be handy to know about our deer dog character is his weakness for "Scooby Snacks" which are dog crackers, this usually puts Scooby in a good mood. Scooby's best friend is without a doubt Shaggy, his owner, who is depicted very similar to Scooby Doo in terms of characteristic specialties such as being extremely cowardly in spooky environments and having the same levels of hunger and craving for food as Scooby.

The Scooby stories are always based on events that appear to be super natural and this is where "Mystery Incorporated" steps in. They are experts in mystery cases in all types of situations. When the mystery has been solved, the super natural occurrence almost always turns out to be imposters trying to make the crime scene look like a super natural event.

Together with the growing online games – world Scooby Doo games series were created. These are a great series of game available for anyone to play online. They are usually found as parts in a larger mystery solving story so it's important to find the first game in the series in order to understand the full story. Visit a Scooby Doo site to get to know him and Shaggy a bit better and follow them through mystery solving at sea with pirate ships, in the pyramids meeting mummies, or have some fun with Scooby trying to surf the waves and skate the ramp.

Healthy Eating – Three Super Reasons to Start Drinking Lemon Water Today

As you go about your healthy eating program, one thing you will want to ensure you are doing is drinking enough fluids. Staying hydrated is key to keeping your…

  • energy level up,
  • your hunger down, and
  • your blood sugar levels stable.

If you want to make the most of your hydration, there is one way to do it: lemon water. Why is lemon water so beneficial? Let’s look at the reasons…

1. Detoxification. First, lemon water is excellent for detoxifying your body. Water on its own is ideal for flushing toxins out of your system, but the added lemon helps cleanse your digestive tract and make sure everything is functioning optimally.

It is important to remember when you become overloaded with toxins, which you are exposed to on a daily basis, everything in your body performs less than optimally. You have to deal with this toxic load, and that can be very taxing and energy draining.

Once you remove those toxins, your energy level will increase, and you will start feeling noticeably better.

2. Low-Calorie. Next, you will benefit from lemon water because it is so low in calories. Lemons contain just mere calories per whole fruit, so the juice of a few slices of lemon may amount to two or three calories at most.

Consuming calorie-containing beverages is one of the leading causes of weight gain for many people, so the more you can swap this out with calorie-free drinks, the higher your chances are of reaching your bodyweight goals.

Furthermore, the light flavor of this water will also encourage you to drink more. Thus it will be easier to get your hydration needs met.

3. Balances pH Levels. Lemons outside of the body are extremely acidic, but inside the body, it is a whole different story. When they move through the digestive tract, they become alkaline, so are great for keeping your body where it needs to be.

When you become very acidic, this can set you up for problems such as…

  • fatigue,
  • headaches,
  • sleepiness,
  • a lack of appetite,
  • an increased heart rate,
  • lightheadedness, and
  • have difficulty concentrating.

Most of us are regularly in an acidic state due to consuming so much meat, dairy, and grains.

There you have three super reasons to drink lemon water today. Try putting a few slices of lemon in a pitch of icy cold water along with some fresh mint leaves for a great tasting drink you will look forward to having.

Why It Is Important To Eat Healthy

Our health is our greatest possession. If we neglect it, we do so at our own peril so, why throw it away through ignorance. Unfortunately, many people never worry about their health until they are in danger of losing it. Then, they are willing to spend small fortunes trying to win back their lost figures or restore the good health they once had. Healthy eating requires a combination of different foods to keep the body in good working order.

Today, it is not easy to have a healthy diet with so many processed foods loaded with fat and sugar. Foods that are highly refined, high in fats or sugar are usually devoid of some of the most important nutrients needed by the body to maintain good health. The human digestive system was never intended to sustain this kind of abuse. Gradually, this kind of diet may leave us weakened and vulnerable to health problems and, also contribute to premature old age and a shortened life.

To function, the body must have nutrients we supply from the food we eat. While diet alone is not the answer to all health problems, healthy eating through a well-balanced diet will provide a constant stream of essential nutrients to keep the body functioning efficiently and in good working order. The more variety you have in your diet, the less you are likely to suffer from some dietary deficiency.

The Essential Nutrients

There are six essential nutrients that your body needs to keep it healthy and strong and all the organs working at full capacity. They are water, carbohydrates, protein, fats, vitamins and minerals. Unless these materials are present in our daily diet, we are likely to suffer from some deficiency and, sooner or later we will find ourselves in trouble.

Water

Water is the body’s most important nutrient as it is involved in every bodily function. Every cell in your body needs water to live, it is essential for the digestion of food, transporting nutrients and oxygen and flushing toxins from your body and, maintaining body temperature. An average person needs 6-8 glasses of water a day in order to function at an optimum level.

Proteins

Made up of amino acids essential for building, maintaining and repairing muscle tissue, regulating body functions and providing energy. The richest sources of protein are animal foods such as meat, fish, poultry, milk, cheese and eggs. However, plant proteins such as beans (especially soybean), lentils, nuts and seeds are healthier because of their lower fat content. To get the most benefit, vary your protein sources so you get the full range of amino acids.

Carbohydrates

Starches and sugars are carbohydrates, the main source of the body’s energy. Simple sugars provide energy (calories) but no nutrients for that reason they are called “empty calorie” foods.

Complex sugars (carbohydrate) are better than simple sugars. Because it takes the sugar a lot longer to break down, they are released at a slower level therefore, your energy levels last a lot longer. These foods are packed with vitamins, minerals and fiber. Eating fresh fruit and vegetables are your best low-calorie sources of complex carbohydrates. Other sources include wholegrain breads, oats, muesli, brown rice, potatoes and pasta.

Fats

Most foods contain several different kinds of fats including saturated, trans fatty acids, polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats Too much fat in the diet can lead to obesity, heart disease and strokes.

Saturated Fats are almost always found in foods that also contain cholesterol and, usually, of animal origin such as meat, dairy products and eggs. A diet rich in saturated fats can raise the level of cholesterol in the blood, causing arteries to clog which in turn can cause strokes and heart disease.

Trans Fats are used in the food industry to prolong shelf life. They are found in many commercially fried foods, packaged snacks, high-fat baked goods and, any product where the label says “partially hydrogenated vegetable oils” which involves most processed foods. Today, we are eating far more of these bad fats than we should.

Polyunsaturated fats can be found in salmon, fish oil and, safflower and sunflower oils. One type of polyunsaturated fat, omega 3 fatty acids may be especially beneficial for the heart and for lowering blood pressure levels.

Monounsaturated fats are considered the healthiest fats helping to lower cholesterol and reduce heart disease. Sources of monounsaturated fats include olive oil, canola, avocado, sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, hazelnuts, peanuts, walnuts, almonds, brazil nuts, cashews and pistachios.

Vitamins And Minerals

Your body needs a combination of vitamins and minerals essential for the maintenance of good health and the prevention of many diseases. Vitamins are divided into two groups:water-soluble (B complex and C) and fat-soluble (A, D, E, and K). Minerals can be classified as major (those we need more than 100 mg …

13 Fitness Tips To Stay Motivated And Workout Effectively

1. Read fitness magazines. Fitness magazines are a great source of both information and inspiration. They can help remind you of why you want to get fit in the first place!

2. Work out with a friend. Not only can this help you actually get to your appointment appointment, but friends can help encourage each other to work out with more intensity.

3. Set a regular time for fitness. If you have fitness time incorporated into your schedule, it's much easier to stick with it, especially over time.

4. Find exercise activities that you enjoy. Whilst it's important to have a balanced workout, there are many ways to build muscle and strength, flexibility, and get aerobic exercise. List the types of activities you enjoy, or think you might enjoy, and start working through all of them. You could even rotate them every 6 weeks.

5. Build variety into your program. Not only does this make it more interesting, you'll actually work different muscle groups, or the same muscles but in a different way. The challenges we create for our body in adapting to new types of exercises results in a fitter and stronger body. Change your program every 6 weeks.

6. Try new fitness activities – Try dancing, boxing, plates, yoga, or kickboxing.

7. Frame the thought of exercise in a positive way in your mind. Even if you do not like exercise, try and think of it in a positive way – that way you are less likely to talk yourself out of it. Think of how good you feel afterwards, not the pain involved in getting there!

8. Exercise outdoors. Whether it's team sports or swimming, get out in the fresh air!

9. Try skipping. Skipping routes fit into small bags, do not require expensive gym memberships, are available for use 24 hours a day, are never overcrowded, and are great aerobic activity.

10. Try resistance training. Resistance training will increase the size and strength of your muscles, thus preventing injuries. If you're not up to free weights, take a circuit class, or a bodypump class.

11. If you're tired, or your muscles ache, try something a bit gentler – but do not avoid fitness entirely 'until you feel better'. Swimming is good because it helps support the whole body, and it is still a good workout.

12. Do not rest too long between sets. Otherwise your workout will take a lot longer to complete, and it could be off-putting mentally the next time you are scheduled to do a workout, especially if you do not have a lot of time that day.

13. Use a heart rate monitor. That way you can make sure you are working out at the right intensity, so maximizing your workout time. You'll see improvements a lot more quickly that way.

The Health Benefits of Olive Oil

While losing all the excess body fat and staying slim forever is everyone's dream. There are still many pieces in the puzzle that we need to fill in. Olive oil is definitely one of those important missing pieces. We all know that in Mediterranean diets it plays an important part. But do you know exactly why is that?

Going back several thousand years ago, in ancient Greece, olive oil was cultivated and used for a variety of reasons. Since then, its use has been taken over all the Mediterranean countries and around the world, continuing to this very day, giving its remarkable health benefits. Most commonly, it is used in cooking, but also in medicines, cosmetics, soaps even as a fuel for old style oil lamps.

The process for making olive oil is very simple; crashing the olives to release the oil inside. It is the king of all oils, because is very high in mono unsaturated fat (up to 80% !!), there is no other oil with such high amount of fatty acids, a super amount of vitamin E, and other powerful antioxidants. In terms of weight loss; 1 tablespoon has around 120 calories, if you eat daily 2-3 tablespoons you can reap all the benefits.

In a report published in the British journal, they found that olive oil could cause a melting of fats in fat cells. In another research made from the American Diabetes Association in Diabetes Care, it shows that it may help in reducing stomach fat and insulin sensitivity.

The health benefits are so many and all very important; because it is made of good fats, not only is cholesterol-free, but also has actually been shown to reduce cholesterol levels and therefore protect from heart disease. In some remote places in the Mediterranean, where people use exclusively in their diet olive oil, they live till very old without any heart problems.

Olive oil may also protect you from diabetes, because it lowers the insulin levels, it can protect you from different types of cancer like skin, breast, or colon cancer. Olive oil also has very powerful anti aging agents; just to get an idea, it is enough to remind you that olive trees are almost immortal, sometimes they can live thousands of years regardless of weather conditions.

There is also the beauty benefit; historical researchers report that man's first use of olive oil was very possibly cosmetic! It can really do wonders in the skin, hair and body !! There are various uses even as a medicine: for the healing of wounds, as a pain reliever with oil massage for the body, for colds and flu symptoms and many more.

Adding olive oil in your diet is an optimum way to start feeling and looking younger and healthier; Simply replace all the hydrogenated oils: margarine, vegetable oil, commercial butters, corn oil, soya oil, and etc, along with a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, nuts, fish and meat.

When it comes to the selection, types and prices of olive oil may vary, depending on the procedure and the destination, but as a general advise i recommend you to buy extra virgin oil for best quality, because it contains all the antioxidants and nutrients, but without additives or chemicals that can harm your health.
