Tips to Saving on Health Insurance

Buying insurance isn’t like shopping for groceries. Health plans don’t come with one-size-fits-all price tags. Your monthly insurance bill, called a premium, will depend on a variety of factors, including your health.

The good news is that there things you can start doing now that will lower your health insurance costs in the long term.

Lower Your Premiums With Smart Health Choices – Insurance companies look at a variety of factors when they decide what to charge you for a policy. This includes you medical history, your lifestyle, and sometimes even where you live. But the biggest factor and the one that you usually have the most control over is your personal health.

Here are a few things you can do to live healthier and save money on your monthly insurance bill.

Eat right. Yes, everyone loves a good cheeseburger with fries. But eating a balanced diet lowers your risk of heart disease, high cholesterol, and even some kinds of cancers. Cut out as much junk food as you can. Eat fruits and vegetables often. And enjoy red meat in moderation.

Exercise. It doesn’t matter if you run, walk, lift weights, or do yoga. Being physically active will improve your well-being and overall health. Many health insurance plans include discounts on health club memberships so it’s even easier to stay active.

Quit Smoking. Chances are, you fit into one of three categories: you never started, you’ve already quit, or you’re sick of hearing about it. If you’re still smoking, give it up. It isn’t easy, but it can be done. If you can be tobacco-free for 12 months, most insurance policies will cut you a break on premiums.

Increase Your Deductible. Statistic show the lower your deductible, the more likely you will put in a claim with the health insurance company. The health insurance companies know this and will compensate by drastically increasing the premium on low deductible plans. To save the most and get the lowest health insurance quotes, ask that your deductible to be $1,000 or higher.

Compare Plans With A Pro – It also pays to work with a professional agent to find the right health plan and get the most affordable health insurance quotes. There are many plans on the market, and not every one will be a good fit for you. Some plans cost more and offer less coverage than others. Choosing the right one can be challenging. But with our expert help, you can make sense of your options and make the right choice.

Healthy Eating Tips – A Healthy Breakfast is Not Just For Breakfast

What is a great way to eat healthy when your schedule is hectic, easily cut calories to lose weight and maintain more of a flexitarian diet (a mainly meatless diet for better health)? It is easy! Have breakfast for lunch or dinner, because healthy breakfast choices, are also great ideas for a healthy lunch or a dinner.

Healthy breakfast food like whole grain cereal with fat free organic milk ideally, and some fruit, makes a terrific and quick healthy lunch, or even a healthy dinner. Whole grain cereals are an easy to fix, healthy choice. Plus, there are so many varieties of great, healthy cereals on the market–if you buy from the natural foods store, or natural foods section of your local, enlightened supermarket.

Eating healthy breakfast food is especially helpful when you have eaten extra during the day and need a lighter meal alternative. Or you know you want something for dinner, but worked late, don’t know what to have, and don’t want a heavy meal sitting in your stomach before going to bed. Plus, if you live in place that has sweltering Summer temperatures like I do, a light, easy meal that does not involve turning the stove on is always welcome.

As a flexitarian, I often have healthy breakfast food for a second meal during the day. It’s also a great way to cut back on some calories if done correctly when you are looking to lose weight since using healthy breakfast foods are generally low in calories, low in fat and are filling because of high fiber and/or protein.

Love typical breakfast food like bacon and sausage but want to do it healthier I hope? This is an easy healthy food makeover. Go with turkey-based versions, or a soy or veggie-based option (like those available from Boca or Morningstar Farms).

Love eggs or egg and cheese omelets like I do? Use any of the brands of egg substitutes or use traditional eggs with extra Omega-3 and DHA sourced from free-range chickens who have had a vegetarian diet, and use double the egg whites, and half the yolk. The cheese in your omelet should be fat-free or at least reduced fat. Don’t be afraid to add high antioxidant vegetables like spinach or broccoli to your creation either.

Why does eating healthy versions of breakfast foods work so well as a quick and healthy lunch or dinner? Whole grain cereals have heart-healthy fiber that keeps you full, and the fat-free organic milk has protein that also lets that meal last longer without that stuffed feeling. If you pick a cereal with healthy nuts like almonds or walnuts, you’ll get additional protein and good fats your body needs. The fruit adds additional nutrition, fiber and some natural energy to keep you going.

If you choose the higher protein choices like eggs, cheese, bacon and sausage made over to their healthiest forms as noted above, you’ll have filling, but low-fat protein that will also keep you full without feeling like a balloon!

Either way, you’ll find that healthy breakfast food for.

For travelers to the Caribbean and South America, there waits the opportunity to sample delicious exotic fruits that not only taste good, but are good for the body. In the Amazon Rainforest region, in particular, one hears much about the legendary Acai berry, believed to be one of the most powerful foods for destroying free radicals in the body. This berry’s high antioxidant content, not to mention its richness of vitamins, has made it a sought after fruit all around the world. However, other fruits are deserving of the same attention.

The next time you decide on a tropical vacation, you may want to search around for these exciting, fresh fruits to sample. Enjoy their tartness and color and savor the health benefits and feelings of contentment they may provide.

Acerola – Resident of the West Indies and Puerto Rico and may already be familiar with the fruit known as the Barbados cherry. Indeed, the acerola fruit resembles a large cherry in shape and color, though it is not of the same family. Used in Caribbean cuisine, the acerola is high in Vitamin C and believed to have more potency than orange juice.

Cupuacu – Deep in the heart of the Brazilian Rainforest, one might find the tall trees that bear this fruit, a relative of the Cacao. Similar to Cacao in flavor, the Cupuacu is an oblong brown fruit from which pulp is cultivated and used as a substitute for cocoa. Cupuacu is a popular ingredient in many South American dishes and offers a caffeine free alternative to cocoa.

Noni – Prevalent on Pacific islands like Tahiti and Hawaii, Noni is probably one of the more commercial of the exotic fruits thanks to recent Noni juice fads. While the actual fruit is bulbous, pungent and bitter, the juice extracted is rich in vitamins and amino acids. While touted as a diet supplement drink, it’s ability to assist in weight loss and other remedies is debated. Anyone considering adding a particular beverage as part of a diet plan may wish to consult with a physician.

Juicing Tips for Better Health

If better health is at the forefront of your mind, then you may want to consider juicing as an addition to your daily mealtime regimen. Juicing can be a way to get more fruits and vegetables into your body without having to spend time cooking them in the kitchen.

People become juicers for many reasons. Some like to use a juicing fast to cleanse their system and launch a better health diet. Others use juicing as a way to shed pounds. Many people just use juicers to start implementing better foods into their diets.

Cooking your foods often destroys many of the nutrients and enzymes found in your food that improves your health. By using a juicing machine, you keep all of those healthful benefits intact.

Juicing even helps you maintain the great tasting qualities of your fruits and vegetables, without you having to add sugars or fattening additions to the food to make it edible to your tastebuds.

The process also saves you money, because buying pre-made juice is often very expensive. And you can make a meal off of a juice mixture!

Picking the Right Juicer

Before you can start juicing, you have to have a machine to do the work for you. There are manual, cheap plastic versions you can buy, but it’s highly recommended that you invest a little more into your options, because those will take you forever to get a small trickle of juice into your cup.

Juicers typically come in three main versions. There are manual juicers, like the one I described above that require a lot of work and arm strength in some cases, not to mention ample amount of time to extract the juice from your fruits and vegetables.

Some of the manual juicers are very lightweight, so you can’t put too much pressure on them. This means you won’t get to create larger batches of juice – you’ll have to stick to small quantities.

Instead of a manual juicer, you can consider buying a masticating or centrifugal juicer. Masticating juicers actually chew up the pulp, making it easier to extract the juice from the fruit or vegetables.

These are single gear juicers, and they work slowly. Some people enjoy the slow juice creation because whenever speed is involved, it means heat is typically a factor – and heat destroys some of the nutrients found in the fruits and vegetables.

The masticating juicers are quieter than the centrifugal juicers, due to their low speed, but many people prefer the centrifugal juicer to the other options. These juicers shred the fruits or vegetables and then spin and strain it, so you get more juice and less pulp.

These are high-speed machines, so the noise level might be a bit higher. However, the speed is faster, so the process is complete in less time, making noise less of an issue. If you get one of these machines, you’ll remove the pulp periodically if you’re making large batches of juice to store for future consumption.

Each type of juicer will have different results when it comes to the volume of juice it can put out. On average, juicers can turn one pound of fruits or vegetables into a standard, 8-ounce cup of juice, but this depends on the product you pick and the power of the juicer, too.

Choosing Perfect Juicing Foods

If you want to feel better and take better care of your body, then your juicing foods should be tailored toward that goal, because some foods are better for you (even in juice form) than others are.

You’ll need to look at your own health requirements and decide which recipes to use for your juicing. For instance, you might be diabetic and need to lower your intake of sugar. Or you might be anemic and need a raise in your iron levels.

For basic health, always think green. Look for foods that are in the vegetable family over the fruit family because you’ll get more health benefits for your body. Fruit has a lot of nature’s own blend of sugar and it can pack a health punch by raising your glucose rapidly.

But keep in mind that just because a food is a vegetable, that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have some sugar in it and some vegetables do contain more sugar despite the fact that they’re good for you.

Even though they contain beta-carotene that helps lower cancer risks, carrots are an example of vegetables that have a higher sugar count than other vegetables, such as cucumbers.

While green vegetables are very good for you, their juice can be difficult to swallow if you’re new to juicing. You’re going to want good recipes for these and then start slowly introducing them to your juicing routine.

You might have read that the …
